Helicoil actually increases thread strength in aluminum.

Use a full collar insert like a Timesert.

Dont use the wound spring like inserts that most people call a helicoil to rethread a spark plug hole.

http://www.timesert.com/

Oh, and if you do this with the head on, fill the cylinder up with shaving cream on the compression stroke. Once you have cut the new thread for the insert, turn the engine over and the swarf gets carried out on the worm of shaving cream that gets extruded.

Make sure you also use some anti-seize lube on the threads of the spark plugs when you put them back in. The reason why the spark plugs got stuck in the head is probably from torquing them down with no anti-seize lube on the threads. SS threads going into an aluminum thread can gaul up and get stuck without out anti-seize lube.

Make sure you dont over tq the plugs either. I tq mine to 19 ft lbs or about 225 in lbs.
