I'm calling around today to get some prices/ETA's on the pistons and see what I'm up against in regards to price.

Then it's time to find someone able to bore it to .25 over..and back together she goes.
Science of speed sells them and can do the bore/hone and install.

While I've got the head off, I'm going to pickup some ARP's I think.

They also sell Rod bolts, what do you all think about those?

Re-use the stockers, or get some ARP's.

Don't say get ARP's if you have no experience either, lol.

I dont see it. Where is the busted ring land? Is it the spot above the wrist pin just below the first ring?
Come on, it's obvious.

See the groove the top ring sits in? Notice it is wider on the left than on the right? That's because the land the ring sits on has collapsed.

stock rod bolts are fine if the motor has never been apart before, and only torqued once. the service manual calls for the torque number plus 90 deg. thing, so i wouldn't feel comfortable torquing the rod bolts too many times.

I used ARP's in my motor with an OEM HG just because they were in stock at xenocron and he always gives me great prices.

honestly the bores do not look bad at all. would i use them like that? hell no. but they do not look like they took too much abuse for all the comp numbers being that low.

and the second piston pic, that relief is deff. melted. same thing happened to my motor, but on every single piston lol (too much timing)

Pardon my ignorance, but is that much carbon on the skirt normal for that power level, of is it from the ring failing? Just wondering.

I'll get some better pics, they were dirty and oily. All it takes is a small crack and it's game over.

As soon as she came back down off the last pull, power was down w/more boost and it sounded different to me, we shut it down.

Did the comp/leakdowns saw the damage and called it a day.

It pushed it on/off the trailer and into the garage/etc.

I dont think there is enough room to bore it .250". Do you mean .025"?

The timing was conservative, so it wasn't a tuning issue. On the last run, we forgot to turn the fans on, so basically the i/c wasn't doing it's job, all that heat was going into the motor and it was to much for the methanol to remove, simple enough.

Being on the threshold already, pushed it over the edge.

Simple mistake, cost me the motor. I figure it was bound to happen sooner or later, when you push it like I did...stuff happens.

Learn from your mistakes, and do it better next time.
