Default I am going S/C....

I have some questions about s/c, I been debating about going FI.... I like both Turbo and S/C but I think S/C car are more reliable.... anyways my questions are the following....

1-With a Vortec kit do I need a HG?
2-can I add a BOV?
3-how about an Oil Cooler?
4-does it needs tuning?

FYI- I dont Track or drag race, this is my daily, I will step on it once in a while for sure, I live in Miami, FL very hot, and I dont plan on boost it more than what the kit comes with, 6-7psi will be enougth for me... thank you for your answers

I think a HG is needed once you pass 350HP I dont think with a 6-7 psi and H/E I will go over... if I do then I will need a H/G right?

1-With a Vortec kit do I need a HG?

Depends on the boost levels. For the stock 7psi the vortech kits put out, no.

2-can I add a BOV?

Yes, but i believe the aftercooled vortech kit already comes with a BOV or a bypass valve

3-how about an Oil Cooler?

sure, why not.

4-does it needs tuning?

it's possible. some people have installed these kits unmolested and have had great results. others required minor fuel tuning for piece of mind or to squeeze out a bit more power.

i suggest you read up in the FAQ's so people don't hurt you. they get relatively angry if you ask questions before doing your homework

best of luck!

1 - Stock kit does not need a HG unless you wanna up the boost

2 - Stock kit comes with a BOV which is pretty nice. You can always change it with any kind you want.

3 - The kit does not come w/ an oil cooler but you can add one if you want. Never hurts.

4 - You should dyno the car after to see if your AFR's are safe but there is no tuning available for the kit it is set how it is. All you can do is get the 12:1 recalibration disc or use a piggy back or ems.

i have a vortech and i would suggest a piggyback, the emanage ultimate, and it helped a lot. the stock black box is ok, and yes like mentioned above it does work well for some people, but it caused problems for us and we ended up having to add the piggyback. HG you don't need at stock boost, oil cooler like said is sure why not. and it does have a BOV on the aftercooled vortech. But i would suggest having it looked at by a tuner after installation.

1. No, these motors can handle over 500whp without a HG with a good tune. If you're ok with 6-7psi of boost then don't sweat it.

2. As mentioned, it comes with one and the word is that it (bypass valve) works slightly differently than a blow off valve and may not be good for the compressor.

3. An oil cooler is not necessary but is never a bad idea.

4. You can run the kit with the stock electronics and FMU that it brings but it performs much better with a good AEM tune. The shop that tunes my Vortech F20C race Miata down here can help you out with that, he's done several SC/Turbo S2000s down here.
