Thumbs up Ignition System Upgrade & Knock Prevention

I am getting closer to finishing my build (see link in my sig) and I am trying to determine what ignition system to use. I know the stock will work but at it's limitations at 500HP. I am debating on adding some GM Coil per cylinder then buying wires for a Civic and custom making them. I have made many sets of wires in the past so that is the easy part. The hard part is I am a novice and am not sure if they will be plug and play.

Anyone that has switched to coil and wire versus the pencil coils is it a straight swap?

Based on my plug and play estimate for coils, a wire harness and plug wires for around $250. For that money is there another good choice in pencil or other coils?

did you see the thread where jeff evans just made rob! a new setup based off of ls2 truck coils. They give output similar to cbr coils and allow for .044 plug gaps. I am looking into that when it comes out, 500.00 bucks i think.

Come-on guys I know how to use the search feature. I do appreciate the links but trust me when I say I have read everything that I could find.

If I could get a green light on the plug and play viability with the coils I will buy my parts ASAP and put together a nice write up just like my current build.

I am really trying to avoid an igntion driver and the CBR coils. Why spend 500 on something the EMS can do with the proper coil and settings.

Here is some good info I found at LS1 Tech on the GM coils, but there is still the issue of how to determin the approriate dwell, no ignitor vs igniters, and which plug wires to use. I called MSD but they were really not intersted in helping? I believe that the LS2/Truck coils will be compatibilty but need to keep digging deeper.

LS2 coils (GM# 12573190, AC Delco D514-A) from the 2005-2006 Corvette (& GTO and Avalanche), and the GM coil used on 2002-2005 Cadillac Escalade, 2000-2006 Yukon, 1999-2006 Chevy Silverado, 2001-2005 Trail Blazer, and some Hummers, etc.. The model is GM# 10457730 or AC Delco D585 (also Wells C1251, Standard UF262, GM/Daewoo 190005218). The LS2/truck coil has a visible external aluminum heat sink near the connector. These LS2 coils are incredible. Even compared to the LS1 coil, these are just crushers! On the LS1 coil there is around 40 milliamps of peak secondary current with 5 milliseconds of dwell time. On the LS2/truck coil (AC Delco D585), there is 120 milliamps!

We will call the second coil type the LS2/truck coil. These two types of coil have the same connector and pin-out, but the physical mounting pattern is different. The coil connector (GM# 12580353)

Okay, I verified that the LS2 coil is availible in the AEM wizard so that make it a bit easier.

Now I need to find info on the wiring and operation of the factory and aftermarket coils.

Any Ideas on which wire ends to use on the head side?

Yes, I did but there have been several others I have seen also. My favorite install mounted the coils in the cowl.

Looks like it will be very easy, just need some wires now.

Mr. Evans, any chance you will chime in. Or if you are looking for paying test subjects and wanted me to help I would not post an proprietary information.
