Inspection trouble in NC. Please help!
I have read several threads concerning people having issues with their inspections but basically the only answer anyone wanted to give was pay the place a hundred bucks and call it a day. Some states are different in their regulations and means of ensuring people's cars are legal, but North Carolina has taken a huge step in a futile attempt to be a royal pain in my ass. Basically, there is no way to cheat the system, you have to have the car plugged up, the cars computer sends its data straight to Raleigh, and thats how you pass. They use a system where there is no inspection sticker and it is just stored into the police department's state computers...
Ok so my dillemna is THIS. In a couple weeks the car will be together again and the inspection was due a month ago. Its turbo'd with an EMS, big injectors and resistor box, and all sorts of shit has been yanked out of the car including the air pump. Will I be able to pass if I can just throw the cat back on, put the stock computer back in, and use some smaller injectors temporarily? I have no idea what kind of bearing the resistor box will have on the situation but this has proved to be a potential PITA indefinitely. Please do not advise me to sell the EMS for freaking k pro
lol. Any advise or shared stories of similar encounters will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

VA's that way. They even compare the VIN to the VIN in the ECU. I did an STI swap onto my WRX and they called me up after the inspection and asked why the VIN's didn't match. Since it was a complete swap with emissions, I was able to pass emissions (well as far as they know, I'd actually flashed the codes way).
You'll need to stock ECU at a minimum and you'll have to bolt up whatever emissions parts you need to make the ECU happy AND you'll probably have to drive 100 miles to get the readyness checks in the ECU set.

Sorry to hear. In the Milwaukee, WI area we have emissions too. Its not to in depth, just a plug in and read the ecu. However, there is a back door to the system. I just register my car to my house, but have it "stored" in a nearby county that does not require emsissions.
A few things to think about. (Im thinking you have a stock engine and stock parts to swap on)
Run the stock ecu and injectors. Re-install/hook up the factory o2 sensors. Install an o2 fix in the rear o2 sensor. If you dont want to re install the air pump stuff, get the GT Motoring air pump delete kit. Its advertised on this website, "I think" it comes with a blockoff plate and a relay of soem sort to trick the ecu into thining the air pump turns on..when it really doesnt.
As far as your resister box, I know nothing about those and have no advice for that other than temp. removing it.
I would think doing all of that will get you by for emissions.

Well, it depends on the manufacturer. US makes have had the VIN in the data stream for awhile now. Subaru seems to have added the VIN with the 32 bit ECU's in 04. I know the 05 ECU had the VIN. It's not clear to me on honda. I do believe my 06 has the VIN but, my old scan tool won't read the S and my new one won't be here for a couple days to know for sure.
Either way, the AEM EMS doesn't "talk" obd2 so, VIN or no VIN it's an insta-fail.

I really appreciate the input guys. I totally forgot to mention that its not a stock motor, but instead a 9:1 comp 2 3 stroker. I wouldnt think that would throw any codes but as always I could be wrong
I totally forgot about the air pump delete and I actually made a post in the thread for them a couple days ago
. I have already planned to buy one...
I am hoping I can just borrow a set of smaller Honda injectors and use them in my obd1 clips, as I have already sold my oem injectors and the clips are floating somewhere in limbo lol. I would hope a code wouldnt show up from using different injectors than the stock ones, as long as they arent big enough to flood the hell out of the motor

^^I could deff try that. Ive got 3 places locally that would pass me but the damned cel cant be cheated anymore. bastards
...sup Mike!! Yea Ive thought about this. I didnt know if you would have to have your insurance, registration, and everything done in that county or not. I have a friend that lives in Alexander county that I could let me mail something to his house to "prove" my new residence. That way I could get it inspected in that county. Over there if it rolls it passes. How long ago did you get yours passed this way in another county?
