Default Let's talk turbo reliability. Precision vs eBay

First off, if you have zero experience with eBay turbos don't talk shit.

My personal experience. eBay 50 trim and 57 trim. My 57 trim last 20k miles never smoked once 387whp stock sleeves b16. 50 trim had 2k miles zero issues, current owner of that car still uses that turbo 10k later no issues.

Precision turbo. 6266 replaced 57 trim, fully built motor 537 on 93. Lasted me 4k (being generous) current owner of the car had 1k on top before he had issues and it needed to be rebuilt. Which he sold for a BW

Current turbo precision 6766 lol. Lasted last owner 2k miles rebuilt it, lasted me 3 months not sure of mileage. Waiting to get it back.

Power wise precision makes ton of power, I'm not denying it. Just honestly everyone talks shit about eBay turbos, and yet they outlast precision. Lmao.

Becuase of this I will never use precision turbos. Although I have no expearance with precision turbos all I hear is about them failing at Verlaine low millage.

As far as eBay turbos I have never used one but I have seen them and they look and feel very cheep and of very poor quality. I would never run one on any one of my cars.

Persionaly I have only used Garrett turbos and I never had a Garrett fail or had one that needed to be rebuilt. My last Garrett gt3582r that I had in my Evo I put over 70,000 miles on it and it never had a problem and had no shaft play.

I haven't had any issues with Precision turbos (I've had 3 in the past 10 years). Could you clarify what you mean by eBay turbo; meaning, what brand, specifically? A Chinese knockoff or simply a company that sells on eBay often (ie. Turbonetics)?

Agreed. That's why I asked for clarification. Many mistakenly correlate Turbonetics with 'eBay brand' simply because many eBay kits use a Turbonetics turbo.

I had my 6262JB start smoking on me after less than a year/10,000 miles (had probably .040-.050" total side to side play).

I just bought a rebuild "kit" and replaced the bearings. The turbine "seal" ring looked to be in good shape. I had some burnt oil around the seal though. So I cleaned it up, and set the seal ring to be on top (don't know how much it moves under operation though) to make it harder for oil to seep out.

It has fixed the smoking problem....but for how long (so far ~5000 miles) we'll see.

The real problem with eBay turbo kits are the wastegates, and blow off valves. I would never use either one.

One of the lucky few I guess so. But comparing a Chinese made turbo to a precision is more of my point lol. I've personally known more precision turbo owners having issues. But more people buy them. I have never ordered one have gotten them second hand. But with them being smaller they got abused a whole lot more in my civics. My 6266 on a built motor spun radials lol. Car pulled to hard to be driven like a 12 psi 50 trim lol.

I'm only attempting to discuss turbos specifically. As honestly I plan on selling my precision in the near future. Manifolds can be another thread lol.

I more or less am just bitching bc my eBay ones have been better quality than my personal precision experience. I have a friend that snapped his turbine shaft first pass at the drag strip. Precision said "starving from oil" lol. It's a honda we run restrictors, Hondas don't starve turbos if everything's installed correctly and your oil pump works...
