Default Long road trips and boost

I wanted to see if anyone has made long road trips while boosted. What did you bring with you? What extra precautions did you take to prepare for the trip?

Would it be unreasonable to take some stock parts with you in case something was to happen? In that case, you would be able to take the car back to stock and drive it home without having to worry about towing it?

I will hopefully be driving my car to Myrtle beach this Feb for a long weekend with some friends. It will be about 1000 miles round trip. My car will be put together and tuned about 2-3 weeks prior to this trip so that I can put some miles on it beforehand.

I think the better question is why?

Myrtle would be one of last places I'd want to take my car, ESPECIALLY with a fresh turbo kits worth of parts strapped to it. Then again, I hate parking my car outdoors ANYWHERE to begin with. I know you're a few years younger than I am, so I can only assume you guys are going down there to do some raging. Worrying about the car and all the drunk, belligerent assholes that you're going to find would be reason enough for me to leave it at home.

That said, I've made a few 5-6 hr trips in my car without blinking an eye.

I'd certainly bring some extra fluids, and a good set of tools "just in case"

I don't see any real benefit to bringing stock parts, you're not going to "De-Turbo" the car on the side of the road.

What I do recommend however, is bringing some extra nuts and bolts just in case something loosens up (think turbo to mani, mani to head ect ect) and any special tool you may have used/modded during the install that you couldn't just go scoop at a local walmart. I know I've got a few s2000 only tools that I've hacked apart to make some of the tricky spots 100X easier.

Other than that, keep an eye on your temps, fluids, and provided the car is setup well, you'll be fine.

Like a crank pulley holder? I agree with illestrolla's analysis (regarding what to bring on the trip).

The trip down to Myrtle Beach is with a group of s2000 owners. I will be staying down there at a friends house who lives in the area (Pretty far from North Myrtle and all the assholes). I have been there before and I have no problem parking my car outside their place. I will be right next to it everywhere else.

That is a good suggestion you made to bring extra nuts/bolts and specialty tools. I will keep that in mind.

The trip is more about spending time with friends and seeing some other s2000 owners who I have met before down in the Carolinas, not really raging. That stuff isn't really for me anyway. My car will be far away from that mess.

I think anytime you take a heavily modded car on long trips w/o a trailer there are risks. As others said, I'd be more worried about thieves more than anything (perhaps I'm just paranoid). As long as you don't bust a diff/axle, I imagine you should be able to patch it up and make it home. A cracked manifold or something along those lines is still drivable worst case. It's meant to be driven/enjoyed so props for taking it on a trip.

Took my supercharged s2k on several long range trips without issues. Most recent was a 3000 mile round trip journey to Miami and Key West. Just enjoy it...if something comes up deal with it then.

Yes thieves always pose a problem but I feel alright having my car in the area we will be staying. I can certainly look into theft prevention before I go.

Ahhhh, well that changes things a bit. I just immediately saw bottles flying and drunks puking left and right. Last thing you need is a keystone ice through a fender.

Obviously I'm not sure this trip would be the best time to test your 60 foots, or roll race people through 5th gear, but as long as you take care of the car and it's setup proper (can't stress this enough) It will take care of you.

I will be driving mine on a 7hr trip to Evans for a tune, then back home. Did the trip when I went SC and again now that I'm going Turbo. I just took it easy pulled off at rest stops often to check over everything. Always bring some basic tools and duck tape lol. And make sure your phone is charged have fun and enjoy the car!

The only thing I'm worried about is the turbo itself. If that was to fail, the car couldn't be driven that far unless the car was "de-turbo'd".

These PTE horror stories have me second guessing my turbo. I plan to switch to a Borg, but I planned on just using the Precision for now since I couldn't sell that thing for anything other than pocket change.
