very nice! I was actually thinking about putting ap2 pistons in my ap1. I really like this idea. However, i don't have the funds to try it right now

I would love to see anyone do this

Pm Minitoyota on here. He might have a set of pistons from a 07 ap2 that had crankwalked. Im pretty sure the pistons are fine.

while you are at it might want to see if you can get some aftermarket rod bolts. I know they were issues on other honda engines. If you plan on making a lot of power it cant hurt since you are doing a rebuild anyway. Keep us updated. Maybe i will do one of these this winter.

this is very interesting information. when i buy another one in a year or so i will most likely give the high compression combo a shot fo sho. +1 on the rod bolts. that and new valve guides for AP1s

How about doing the AP1 crank with AP2 rods and pistons and then milling the block to achieve something like 8.8-9.5 CR? I guess one would have to mill an insane amount to make it work.. thoughts?

Edit: Any effects on timing chain if the block/head was to be milled by a rather large amount?

I dont know if this would be a good idea or not. The milling on the block would be excessive, you would need to mill 3.37 mm off to get back to stock compression ratio. So to get to 9.5 compression would still require about 1.5mm of machining. You could do this but then your timing would be way off and you would need to get adjustable cam gears, which are about $800 per set. Or I guess you could just use the 3mm headgasket clock procedure and get close to the same thing.
