Default Map Controller Vortech V2

Hey all,

I have just purchased a Vortech V2 kit for my AP1 and noticed it didn't come with a Map controller but did come with the black timing box.

My question is it necessary to run a map controller? I noticed the instructions said AP2's dont need it but wondering if I absolutely need it?

Car is running stock ecu and stock everything else.

Thanks all! Any input is welcomed.

00-05 or 06+?

00-05, youll need need both boxes. You can use the comptech piece as it does the same thing. There is also a map spacer sold on ebay.

The ap2 kits include an extra injector on the aftercooler because of the additional fuel needed wit the f22.

The vortech black boxes are some of the most problematic compared to the other sc systems. If you do go with it, make sure to have at least a wideband also installed.

Youll save yourself a lot of headache by going with an emanage, aem ems, flashpro or the like.

I was under the impression that the 04-05 black box had the map controller built in. It's in the instructions. It has an extra wire for the map control.

Double check.

Also install a wideband, it's good to know what your AFR is. Also if you can monitor your timing (perhaps via ODB)

Ah, the car is 00' model. I'm pretty new to Forced induction and stuff but what exactly does the map controller do? Looks like I might have to get the seller to try and find it otherwise I would have to consider going for an aftermarket ecu like you've mentioned

Ya, I got the AEM wideband coming as well. Didn't really want to drive the car without knowing what the A/F. Would be too paranoid of something going wrong lol
