After a bunch of troubleshooting and cleaning and oiling found out mine wouldn't hold vacuum anymore. The diaphragm on mine ended up with a hole somehow so I had to replace mine last fall with a new one. Went with the turbosmart again since I didn't want to change the flange to fit a tial one.

Ptuning even sent me another spring, I think it was the pink smaller one, put that in still never functioned and on my current new one I'm running only the blue spring and it functions perfect.
Currently does the piston on your BOV move up and down if you rev the engine gently (1-3K RPM) in neutral?
Confirmed. Opened the BOV and it has the Blue and Pink spring. With only the blue spring, the BOV will move up and down with gentle rev of to 3K and letting go. Also at idle, the force to compress the piston is a lot less with the fingers. There is still enough spring force to close the BOV. Will test drive for a couple weeks to see if I get any flutter/surge, lag ect... noticed that the whoosh is a lot louder with only the blue spring..

Make sure the diaphragm is not crimped and compressing correctly before assembly. Reason why your piston is not moving smoothly?

Never noticed any compressor surge with the blue and pink spring though...

Do you have the PTuning kit?

My BOV only came with the blue spring. Was mine supposed to come with the blue and pink spring?

When for a drive tonight (after oiling it) and finally heard the valve blow off but only after I develop close to full boost.

I want to take it apart again and check the diaphragm....should I have also oiled the diaphragm too?

Sounds pretty close to the symptoms I had when mine went bad. Mine would flutter and cause compressor surge under low levels of boost.

Have u tried testing the BOV to see if its holding vacuum? That was the problem with mine..I took a pressure tester connected it to the BOV and pumped it and found out its gotta leak.

I am going to buy this:

and test my BOV.

I just hope that I can get out of that place. Every time that I go there I always spend more time than expected. Like a kid in a candy store

I just did the vacuum test and the BOV is holding vacuum. So no leaks in the diaphragm.

I pumped the vacuum tester up to 27 inHg and it did't open the piston......but if I used my fingers to open it, it would open and stay open, until I release the vacuum.

So I have 2 questions:

Is my BOV functioning properly? (I do hear it blow off while I am driving)

I am I supposed to have the blue and pink spring installed? (Mine only came with the blue spring) (PTuning kit BTW)

That's a good thing to know that your BOV has no leaks. And if ur vacuum source is around -20inHG then it's looking good.

But about the springs, on my old BOV that went bad it only had the blue spring and I never had any issues (until it wouldn't hold vacuum). When I called ptuning to figure out what the problem can be they sent me the pink smaller spring to try it (obviously didn't help since my BOV wouldn't hold vacuum).

When I got my new BOV I put both the blue and pink spring went for a drive around the block and if I recall correctly it sounded like my old bad BOV..I then opened it and only ran the blue one and since then it's been working properly.

When I get my car out of storage in like 2 weeks at the latest I could maybe be of more help and can even try both springs again and see what happens.

Ran the blue spring for a week. On light rev drop during idle, the piston will blow off air. Partial throttle boost was easy to control. The whistle during boost and blow off was more pronounced. Car felt sluggish between shift.

Placed the blue and pink spring back and noticed less throttle % was need to build boost. During idle, the blow off valve moves only during 6K+ rev drop.

Run the blue and pink spring as recommended Turbosmart for > -20mmHg cars.

I just got a chance today to run it both with only the blue spring and with the blue and pink.

With only the blue everything seems to be functioning as it should

With the blue and pink spring the BOV is late to open and flutters even more so under low levels of boost.

So I'm now back to only the blue spring which seems to function fine. Not sure what's up now considering it works fine for you with both...
