Default Nissan Differential

If anyone is wondering why the Nissan is so much stronger than the S2000 diffy, here is a picture and some numbers:

The ring gear I'm holding is Rick's 4.56. It's diameter is approximately 7 1/4". The Nissan is approx. 7 7/8". The length of the teeth:

Nissan - 1 7/16"
S2000 - 1 2/16"

I'll be switching to the Nissan in a few months.

Are you going with the Diff Techniques kit? Or are you doing something on your own? I was just looking at the Diff techniques page. I am sure it would be bulletproof, but thats a lot of money for a for a rear end.

Good luck with your project

I'll ge going with the Differential Techniques kit with the aluminum driveshaft unless someone else in this country comes out with one. I already have the differential, so a little money saved there.

fperra, diff technique uses a different diff to yours.
You should look at the K&A kit if you want to use those diffs.

Isn't it just the back cover that is different?

fperra,

As far as I know it is, also crownwheel and pinion are the same, so I don't know what he is on about, I have had it in my car for the last 2 years, we have tested it in all sorts of conditions, including drag racing with slicks, and a lot of track work.

Also just for your information, we where the first to come up with the idea of a Nissan diff, we spend a lot of time testing to see what diff would fit but, also be strong enough to handle any kind of abuse.

You can't go wrong with Diff Technics just check out my signature links

cheers

I went back and forth through quite a few emails with Kurt from Diff Technics last night. Seems like its really good stuff - soon as funds are together I will be purchasing the full kit including (cut and paste) : "R200A rear into S2000 Honda Brackets, One pair of 1000HP C.V.'s, one Re-built Nissan rear (4.1 Viscous LSD) and one Aluminium Driveshaft including adapters to run universal joints".

With the new setup I am goin gto need something that I know will be able to hold - this sounds pretty bulletproof!

you don't want the VLSD. Get something better and like a 1.5way for the fun of it

*kicks himself for giving away his 240sx diff a few years ago to a friend*

Hmm, particular reason? Not trying to be a smartass or anything, just asking for useful knowledge!

Which set-up would everyone recommend?

-It's a 1-way LSD
-Not all that strong compared to the aftermarket items that aren't much more expensive
-The % of power that goes to the wheel with grip is substantially less than the one that's spinning (I think the numbers are around 20% if I remember correctly).

I had the VLSD with my 240sx and there's a huge difference between that and the Kaaz.

The kaaz is the cheapest option for the aftermarket diff's (I think). You can also get them over here state side so that's not an issue.
