Default Nitrous set up on the S2K...

Well like most of us, I'm thinking about modding my car. Right now I have a basically stock AP2, and have been debating over which direction I should go... supercharger, turbo, stay NA and just get gears, do nothing... I've thought of all scenarios. I have not seen or read about anyone going with nitrous on this car though, and was wondering if a 50 or 75 shot has even been done?

For the weekend cruise or auto-x, the S2K in its stock form is a lot of fun. The Supercharger or Turbo setup is expensive... perhaps more than I want to spend given the fact that I wouldn't use it that much. I don't street race at all, and stay near the speed limit unless I'm on the track of course. But I don't go to the track every weekend or anything, and probably won't. Besides, I'm one of those guys who actually likes to drag race the S2K (spare me the lecture) so when I do go to the track, it's usually there. So I'm thinking a supercharger might be under-used if I got one, and that $5K would be a waste.

But maybe a shot of NO2 would be fun? For the times I do go to the track, it provides that extra kick down the quartermile. For most of my other driving however, I won't need it or use it. I may be wrong, but if I take out the bottle, I should be able to still run in the A-stock class in the auto-x as well.

I just haven't heard much about this option though. How expensive is it? How reliable if you only spray a few times a month? And DIY install guides, or recommended setups? I'd appreciate any feedback.

I did find this thread (how's that for a noob, I actually searched!)

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=86045

But it's a good 3.5 years old. I'd love to hear any recent experiences of anyone running a Nitrous set up. From what I've always heard, the fact that NO2 is super dangerous is a myth... a properly used, conservative shot can be just as safe or safer than other forms of forced induction. It's the people that hook up their system's wrong, or spray too large a shot that blow their engines. A 50-shot might just be that kick in the pants my car needs.

I don't see why nitrous wouldn't be effective on an S. It's basically another form of forced induction. Just like a turbo or a supercharger though, if you try to do too much, you blow shit up.

Nitrous works just fine in a S. Once, I saw this movie about a black S2000 running against a VW out in the desert at something called Race Wars....

Yeah I saw that movie too. BTW what was that classic line the guy in the S said as he pulled away? Too quick kid? Too fast buddy? oh whatever...

It's all right. I ain't losing. This fool is running a Honda 2000. I'll win, it's all good. Then, me and my dad can roll together when he gets out of prison.

I'm so impressed my the intellagence level in this thread, there is so much good information being put out.

vbeachboy, NO2 is a great power booster, but is very hard on pistons. Dry shots are to be avoided, and on a wet shot I wouldn't run more than a 50 without backing off the timing abit, or run a colder plug. You can get a basic setup for around $500, if you want purge, bottle warmer, management ect. ect. then you can look at around the $1000 range. Hope this helps.

ItalianBucwheat(not sure if he's on here anymore) ran nitrous. I used to quiz him on related stuff and he was nice enough to respond.

I'll be adding nitrous to my sc'er setup down the road. Since my motor is apart, I'll be lowering compression to about 10:1. At that point, I'd have no qualms about using a 75 shot on top of my 10-12psi sc'er.

Unfirtunately, the only technical stuff I can add to this thread would be to agree with Scorpion- wet... no dry shot. Pay the extra money to include the safety add-ons.
