Default Not tapping the oil pan

Hi guys,

I just installed the gt35r turbo kit and was wondering if tapping the oil pan was necessary? I have it hooked to the oil drain plug instead. Kinda like the comptech SC setup but wanted to know whats the worst that can happen? Thank you!

the oil will get backed up in the return line and eventually ruin the seals on the turbo. it takes a hour or 2 to tap the oil pan. You can probably train a monkey to do it. Just do it right. It is something that is nessecary.

Just out of curiosity, how long will it take for the seal to blow? Just because I might need to drive it around for couple of weeks before my buddy can work on it again.

the oil only backs up into the line if your return line is too small or if it's not sloped down to the drain pan properly. every time I've ever seen this happen, the car started smoking pretty much immediately. if you're not blowing smoke the first time you drive it after the install, your return line location is probably fine.

Just because it came like that doesnt mean its the right way to do it. You should tap the pan above the line of the oil, this way it can drip back in freely. If you look at any aftermarket oil pans like moroso, they all have the return hole up high on the pan.

I was at a shop a few months ago, this kid was in there getting his kit fixed because of that. I overheard the owner (his shop did not do the original install) saying that he has seen this happen with a lot of Greddy kits.
Greddy refuses to admit its the problem & will not replace anything.
