Default Ongoing questions about FI

Been considering a SC for a while, the couple that have been used FS and at market value sold before I had seen the postings.
(98000 miles) if that matters, mobile 1 always, ACT PP and stock disk with 60,000 miles - might be getting close to time for new clutch.

I searched new for both Comptech $4800, and Vortech V2-V3 $5400-5800
A. what is the V2 and V3 with the vortech? = (answered) self lubricating "SL"
B. is there something wrong with a new comptech kit $4800
C. Id like to be 375-400 whp
D. I have a two year old ARK exhaust, should help

some people use the inter cooler and some not, one post said 450whp w/o inter cooler at 14-15 boost

is a AP1 and AP2 kit comparable? or do I need a AP2 kit for my AP2

so many question don't know where to start. I just dont want a little kit entry level kit and not be happy
or try to make to much HP and blow up my engine, trans or diff. I just paid my registration and smog

help plz Thank you

Do you plan on getting used? I would, as $5k for a comptech or Vortech would be rediculous.

With used, the comptech is great. The kit is simple. The electronics and fuel are a breeze.

I had a used Vortech too, and couldnt even bear to pay the reduculous prices Vortech wanted for their specific parts. You also can't use an ap1 kit on your ap2 without an ems and injectors.

With my used comptech ap1 kit, all I needed to do was pick up a smaller pulley to up the boost for my ap2.

if I were going new, I'd pick up the SOS kit.

Well, if your looking for 375-400 to the wheels, you'll need EMS and injectors anyway. So with either brand kit ap1, or ap2 will work.

If I were you, I would get either kit used if you can find one only if it is not your daily driver (you can afford to have it down for a bit). If not, I would get a Vortech v3 tuner kit (can be had new for approx $3400 (superchargers4less.com)). I was in the same boat as you a few months ago and ended up going the new route. Since the car is my daily, I was very worried about getting a used kit and having the guy forget a few key parts that would have to be ordered from Vortech or something, so I decided new was the way to go since I had to finish the install in 1 weekend. You will then need an ems ($1000+), injectors, map sensor, a fuel pump, a wideband gauge, and a tune (I paid my local tuner to do it, but if I were to do it again, I would probly go with an Evans e-tune for half the price). Thats about the bare minimum. Doing it this way will allow you to up the boost for only the price of a new pulley (you will for sure need to up the boost to get to your target hp).

A lot of people say if you are going new to get the SOS kit, but it is A LOT more money over the Vortech. It may not look like that based off the prices published on Vortech's web site, but the kit can be had for MUCH MUCH cheaper than that. The SOS kit is only sold one place, so it is what it is. The sos tuner kit is approx $1200 more than the vortech.

I have a V3 (self oiling). I had mine set at 320HP on purpose. From what I've read 350HP is the cut off for the S2000 with a stock motor, you can go bigger but you need to be concerned with your stock engine/ diff. holding up to the added pressure. We had a 400HP turboed Miata but it was hard to control the wheel spin on road courses. (You could lite the tires in 5th gear. It was a blast till Sue melted the 4th piston!) If you really want 400HP then top end work will be needed and maybe bottom end as well with 98000 miles. So figure a used SC with engine work = 10K. We had a friend (He has a SC Mini Cooper) autox our SC'ed CR last weekend, all he could say was "That thing is scary fast!" He took 1st in SSM for the event. And if you want to enter something like the SK2 Challenge you need to be 350HP or under.

Wrong. I have 450 whp dyno dynamic dyno. Stock block valve cover to oil pan. Click in my sig for dyno. And my power is wek saus compared to some guys stock blocks.

Diff/trans are glass. Can be broken na. I'm still on my originals and I have 44k on the clock, 14k FI.

U don't break drivetrain in gear till like 350-400wtq. Below that if u roll on the throttle ull be fine.

FYI sl blower maxes at 400whp. Get a 1200 sized oil fed blower pump out 12 psi and have fun .

If e85 is available go 14-15 psi and have fun at 450ish whp. Feeling crazy go 20psi and maybe touch 500.

Stock block son. It's a beast.

Like everyone said if you are buying new and want a SC get the SOS. Honestly though used kits are fine. you can get a vortech or comptech for half the price as new. I prefer the comptech but either works great and neither is proven to be better than the other. There isn't a lot of parts involved with a supercharger so if you are buying used there isn't a lot to worry about. Worst case is you buy a used kit and the blower is bad so you would need to spend $400 to rebuild it. Even in that case you would probably come out with over 2k in your pocket in savings over a new kit.

but watch out. If you want to make that much power it is going to cost you a lot more money. EMS, injectors, tune, smaller pulley. Not to mention many other parts that you may need or want to have. Like a BOV, Map sensor, larger heat exchanger, larger radiator, non rising rate FPR, gauges, modifry temp gauge fix if you get an AEM EMS, possibly better pump then what is in the kit, PNP clips for the injectors. The list goes on.

Great info from all Thank's everyone

Used market has been slim to nothing, I think used working kit should be $3000max (IMO)

inlinefour.com listed a Comptech new $4800, I do not want to buy a kit with no options to go with more power- only Novi 1000, -340crank power, seem my upgrades are limited

just found....
Vortechsuperchargers.com 2004-2005 S2000, Tuner Kit, V-3 SCi-Trim, Satin (Tuner kits do not include fuel management upgrade or programming)Part Number: 4HS218-030L, Price: $4165.95. what blower model 100, 1200 or 1220?

SOS uses the Vortech, for some reason?

SOS kit
http://ww.scienceofspeed.com/product...charger/04-05/

$5300 kit ready to go just bolt on 323whp (stock I/E) I do have a ARK exhaust, love it. I want to be 350-375whp

Sideways has a Vortech, but I'm not looking for Sideways power 525+, just a little 350-400 without having to worry about anything. I've had the project car and have a collection of tools, never again. to many knuckle busters on my 1972 240z

other threads I've read said the better blower would be 1200 - 1220 more power less boost - less engine stress? maybe?

I'll keep searching and reading post, make some calls to the retailers

This is the kit I would recommend. Then you add you own ems & fuel system. That kit can be had for approx $700 cheaper than vortech's listed price from a number of different retailers.

The v3 is self lubed, v2 is not. Meaning you will have to run oil lines to/from the motor for the v2 kit. The v3 is more efficient as well.

SOS uses Paxton blowers, not Vortech. I believe they use the 1220 standard, with the 1200 being an upgrade option (for their stage 2 kit at least).
