Default Operating Temp?

I've been keeping an extra eye on the temp gauge lately.

I can do a pull, and it doesn't really budge much, but sitting idling, or just regular driving I can see it creep on me.

Ap2 w/a new Mishimoto radiator, stock fans w/shroud, 50/50 mix Prestone (distilled water) and water wetter.

It idles around the 199/205 mark and the fans kick on @ 215. Which in my opinion is to hot. Even hit 219/220 before

Curious where others fall.

Thanks

how are you measuring temperature?

Fans should turn on around 200-205F and drop the temps down to 190F before switching off and repeating the cycle.

My AEM serial gauge shows:

Cruising on the fwy I'm at 165-175
Sitting in traffic 171-181 depending on ambient temps

My fans come on at 181 and turn off at 171 using EMS. I run a Mugen thermostat btw.

AEM 19-1 gauge.

Seems I'm running way high.

My cluster temp gauge is showing 180-205 as thats teh range for the bars that are lit.

How hard is a thermo change on these cars? Also, where to get a cooler thermo?

Have you changed the coolant temp calibration within the EMS yet? It reads about 15* high if not... It was incorrect from AEM.

There is a thread on the AEMPower forum about it.

No I didn't?

I had no clue, that would explain the issue.

I did purchase a better radiator cap, as I've heard the mish caps are junk.

Where is that thread?

Even 220 is accetable from factory standards. A lot of oem cars get that to those temps in high heat days in certain states, especially Arizona.

Perhaps, but I feel thats to hot for my liking.

I'd like to see it below 200, even after a pull.

With it hovering around 220 on a sub 70 degree day has me worrying.

you hit the nail on the head. what hes seeing is classic default values for water temp sensor. change to the values on aem forums and you will see more normal numbers. shouldnt go above 205 with new values. and if you want, you can set the fans to be controled by the ems and have them come on whenever you want. theres a thread on here about it.
