Hp isn't as important as what tire setup for traction you got going on.

If the diff broke and you tried to accelerate in gear it would typically make a ton of noise. At least in all my experience it does.

If it was silent after the break, and the car just free reved in gear, odds are it's an axle.

it didn't make a "ton of noise", but it did make some weird odd noises, it was definitely not silent, picking up new diff and will try to install it tomorrow

That is exactly what I am thinking.

Ian300D, that is exactly what happened to me when I broke an axle joint. It popped right at the launch at the tree at the track after I did a burnout. Jack the rear of your car up and push up and down on them.
