Default Question about Boost?

When your not boosting, does the Turbo still put stress on the motor? Or does the Turbo only put extra stress on the motor while boosting? Thanks.

At light throttle conditions (non-boosting conditions), the turbo and compressor have little effect on the engine other than slight flow restriction up and downstream of the motor.

A turbo never directly "stresses" an engine. There is no mechanical link between the turbine/compressor and the motor like with a belt or gear driven supercharger. The added "stress" comes in the form of higher intake charge pressure, requiring more fuel, making more power, and placing more forces on the internals, etc.

Thanks, I think that answered my question.
