Question bout oil capacity

Thumbs up Question bout oil capacity

I have an 8 row setrab oil cooler, and ik the motor require 5.9 quarts with motor overhaul, but how much more is needed for the cooler?

volume of a cylinder formula for the lines, use the ID and length, then the capacity of the oil cooler. shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

btw when you change the oil you might want to pull the cooler and lines and drain them, that could be a decent amount of old oil you do not want going back into the motor.

This cooler is old, like 4-5 years and all the labels are gone, thats why i posted on here, and i agree with draining the cooler, the nastiest stuff seems to hang out in there. Thanks!

Hmmm, never thought of that. Next time I do an oil change I will drain the lines. It will be a good opportunity to install my Canton adaptor in place of the crappy one that came with the kit.

Put 6 quarts in then prime the engine... top off if needed? dont gotta get all complex with math.

take your cooler, fill it with water, then dump it into a measuring container. then, take your lines, plug one end and fill it up with water and dump it into the container with the cooler water and see the grand total. nothing complex there and its 100% accurate.
