Default Short term to long term exhaust option

Hey Everyone,

I recently bought a low miles turbo kit from another s2ki member. I'm in a bit of a pickle and I need some insight. I have a 60mm 2.39inches-ish --- HKS Hi-Power dual.. I know this exhaust can't be good for a turbo setup so this is where your advice comes in.

He supplied me with the downpipe and a cat delete (it's like a long custom test pipe that's 3 inches and at the very end it tapers down into a 2.5 inch 2 bolt flange)

He sent me an etune from Jeff Evans for his 05 AP2, mine is an 04 with the same kit except I won't have his exhaust. Will my exhaust cause my setup any harm from being restricted while traveling to my dyno tune(assuming it's running decent enough with the tune he sent)? I'd have to get my hks cut, or the cat delete altered to fit-- I really don't want to buy a $600 exhaust especially since I need a decent clutch too.. Just too much money in a short period of time

It would be stepping from a 3in to 2.5... to 2.39

Options:

1. use my hks until I can get a 3 inch, or trade it for one

2. run open test pipe until I can get one-- (how friggin loud is this gonna be with a pfab ELT and 5858?)

3. Just go ahead and off myself before I buy too much crap

Sorry for my wall of text pals, but I'm just trying to give ya the scoop so you know what would be a good option.

I would just wait and have a full 3 inch exhaust made before your tune. The hks exhaust you have is crap and will significantly rob your of a lot of power. Running on the street with open down is not realistic as it stupid loud.

If you tune with your current exhaust your just going to not be happy and eventually buy a real exhaust system and go back for a return. You will end up spending more money and will do this if you end up doing option 1.

Get a 3" exhaust. That way you won't blame your exhaust for low Hp #'s

What kind of turbo and turbo kit did you get?

For right now I'm not crazy concerned with numbers. I just don't want to hurt my motor or turbo/kit

How far away is the dyno? How much power do you want to make? That exhaust is very restrictive for a turbo.

The hks hi power is worst and more restrictive than a stock exhaust.
But to answer your question the exhaust wil not hurt your engine or turbo. It's just the weakest like in the whole setup and it's what will hold the car back the most when the goal is to make as much power as possible.

Just run an open downpipe for now, it is pretty loud but not that bad. I've been running mine open for a few months now.
