Comptech all the way. Their kits actually come with a 5.5 lbs pulley instead of the 7.5 in the vortech. There are COUNTLESS threads about this debate. Do a search. A few years ago there was like a 20 page argument about it with TONS of great info.

To answer your question, I think that the vortech put out 8hp more than the comptech without the A/C. It said to add abother 10-15 because of the AC. I raced a guy with the vortech setup and its was like boosted s2k vs stock on how bad I walked him. Not sure if he was giving it his all but his engine was def screaming just as loud as mine.
Yeah, I haven't done a search, but if what you're saying is true, not only is the Novi 1000 more efficient than the Vortech unit but it is also more reliable from what I've heard. Thanks for the info Nik.

The Novi 1000 is not more efficient than the Vortech. The Novi 1000 is not more reliable than the Vortech. How could you possibly come to those conclusions?

You might not want to base your whole Comptech vs Vortech view of the world based on this single event. You may be in for a big awakening one day. So many factors can come into play in this event that could explain the outcome.

Guys, don't get pissed off just because you guys have Vortech kits. Xviper, you've said several times that had Comptech had an aftercooler you would have gone with the Comptech kit but things somehow worked out that you purchased the Vortech kit. You've even said yourself the Comptech kit is more reliable perhaps because it pushes less boost in kit form than the Vortech kit. I knew I was gonna get flamed for my comments but I made them nonetheless. The only fair way to resolve this issue is to strap the same size pulley on both kits w/ aftercoolers then dyno, you agree or disagree?

Yes, I would have bought a Comptech if I were to do it again, but not for the same reasons you stated. I simply don't like the way Vortech treats their customers. There is absolutely no after the sale service and getting a response from them for parts enquiries is totally unacceptable. I'm not pissed off in any way. Comptech makes a great product. I was standing with Sideways in his query to you about how you can come to the conclusion you did. You based your conclusion on "efficiency" on the response of another poster who "thought" certain specs were the case. You need more facts to come to such a conclusion.

I don't believe anyone is "pissed off". Sideways was merely questioning how you arrived at the conclusions that you did. I tried to inject a little jocularity. There will always be some Comptech vs Vortech rivalry, however, in this case, I'm of the opinion that both kits are a great mod for this car and hence, I can't be pissed off at anyone who may favour one over the other. Personal preferences aside, just be more judicious about how you arrive at your product evaluation.

As for reliability, if I indeed stated what you say (my memory isn't that good ), then it's not an incorrect statement. It only goes to reason that less boost will garner you some extra reliability, however, one must also concede that less boost equals less output and to gain equal ground in terms of WHP, most people would up the boost, in which case, reliability of one brand no longer has an advantage over the other.

Whatever you decide to do, I am certain that you will enjoy your car even more than you do now. And when it push comes to shove and should issues arise, you can be assured that we're all here for you.

The only reason I like the vortech kit is because the pulley sizes are different and I (comptech) would need a much smaller sized pulley to make more boost. Especially having a 2004 S2000.

My pulley, that will push 8lbs, with have to be 3". I don't know by how much, but the vortech one is bigger. Smaller pulley = more boost but also more chance of slippage. Also the vortech kit can put out more boost than the comptech. I think the max for C is 14 while V is 20.

Other than that I don't like the way the vortech kit looks. I think the bracket looks cheesy and the paper sticker on the AC is cheap. None the less they serve their own purpose.

Why did I choose comptech? One of the few main reasons, looks, as it is important how my car looks when I pop my hood. No oil pan tapping. And the fact that comptech actually makes other parts for the car and has an S2000 with the kit on it that they race with and do testing on.

I would still like to see someone with a vortech kit on stock boost, 7lbs, race me with my 6.6lbs. There is only 1 person around here that I know of but I'm sure I'll meet more.

Long post, this is only my opinion so please don't

i wish you were around here when i had my vortech, or someone around here that had the kit

i had 285 baseline and 316rwhp on stock 7lb pulley and stock header/cat with just
a catback, just slightly adjustable fuel pressure, but that made me run rich at idle

i drive my car really hard, wouldve been nice to see the outcome

never actually went to a track to time my car but iv'e done enough
"test runs" to know i was running 13's without launching, so that wasnt too bad

Xviper, if you were in my shoes(AP2) and simply wanted a supercharger kit that you wanted to strap on for maximum performance and maximum reliability of both the kit & car itself which would you select. I'm just interested in your justifications for such a selection.
For an AP2, first, I would still go for Comptech for the reasons I've already given for my dislike of Vortech (customer service). Second, I've met the guys at Comptech and have been to their shop. They know Honda and Acura. The AP2 has its own set of variables that make it such that the kit needs to be set up for it (longer stroke, lower redline). I have the confidence that Comptech did their homework here, where as Vortech, who the heck knows. You can't get a hold of them to ask them anything. And it would seem that Vortech doesn't just cater to S2000s or even Hondas in general. We'll never truly know if they spent any time designing their kit to work on the AP2. Their kit for AP1 works really well but that's about all I can say.
I realize that some of these statements don't hold any more credence that what you've "heard", however, sometimes, one has to use extrapolations of what we already know to make our buying decisions. If only Vortech was easier to talk to so that we could find out if they'd even be around to help out if we needed them, they would get more credit from me.
With the Comptech, if you ever had problems or questions, you've got the company and us to call on. With Vortech, you can count them out. They're too busy selling kits to every other manufactured car.
