I agree that Comptech def has great cust support. I called them many times and stayed on the phone for hours asking questions and they were more than happy to help me, at least thats what it seemed like.

Ok, I looked for dyno plots on Vortech's website regarding their kit(which obviously includes aftercooler) installed on an AP2 but they didn't have it. I am just curious to know which kit pumps out more power assuming you buy the Aftercooled Comptech Kit? I also realize that the Vortech kit makes more power in general because it has a smaller pulley which creates more boost on their stock kit, given this fact, let's say both kits were aftercooled and you got a smaller pulley to match the Vortech pulley size on the Comptech kit, then this would be an equal comparison, which would make more power at the wheels? I also am aware that the Vortech kit is inconvenient in that you have to run a tap from the oil pan. I want to see dynoplots for both these kits on AP2's both aftercooled and identical pulley sizes. I think this would be a great comparison.

look at this thread. My04 with vortech, making 354/224 hp/tq respectively. I don't see any Comptech kit with any number close to that (given he has some other little mods).

Both are excellent kits and you won't go wrong either way. Both have their pros and cons.

During a recent meet when a bunch of AP2 owners meet up to remove our delay valves in our slave cylinders I met a couple guys with Comptech blowers aftercooled and non-aftercooled. It was the first time I had heard an S2K with a Comptech blower and one thing I noticed was that the gear noises coming from the car were quite notable. I also have a friend who installed a Dinan supercharger kit on his E36 which uses a Vortech blower but in his car you can't even tell he's running a blower unless you try to listen for it. I also realize that Vortech has a version 1 and 2, 2 being the quieter one due to different internal gearing which is what he has. I wanted to know if this is also typical of what the Vortech kit sounds like on the S2K where it isn't quite so obvious. Which blower is louder?

I've listened to several other Vortech cars and several Comptech cars. The Comptech blower definately has more bearing/gear noise. It almost sounds like a can full of nuts and bolts turning around. The Vortech is not nearly so apparent. About the only noise the Vortech makes is your typical supercharger whistle noise (which I think is quite intoxicating).
ps. The Comptech will also have the whistle but with the hood open and at low rpm, the bearing noise is much more noticeable. It's just the nature of the beast and is not a problem as such.

I think from the aspect that the Vortech kit is quieter and makes more power right out of the box is something I like. Plus if I ever run into problems with this kit or have questions I always have Xviper to help me out. The fact that the kit is cheaper aftercooled than the Comptech kit helps too. Vortech also offers a longer warranty period @ 3 years. I would really like to see a CARB certification on the 04/05 kit before I make a purchase though.

Just read through this thread, and it was very helpful. It answered alot of questions I had. A couple more questions though if you guys can help (I am VERY new to this FI stuff. Honestly, I never thought I would have the money to do it, but I finally saved enough )

1.If I get the Comptech kit with AC, what small mods can I do to increase the output without doing any engine tuning(I don't have anyone locally to do this in central Indiana )Is it as simple as getting a smaller pulley?

2.When upgrading the Vortech, is it as easy to do as the Comptech? Again, without doing any extensive engine tuning. Just bolt on stuff, such as a smaller pulley, etc. I already have a catback, with stock header.

Anything you can add will help. I am going front to back one page at a time in the FI forum trying to figure everything out. It is alot to swallow, and very confusing
