Default timing map and knock voltage question

can somebody help me to take a look of my AEM log , I am getting knock volt around 5k to 8.5k ..it peak at 1 volt.. avg at 0.40volt , for the ignitiong timing I am running at 10-12 degree at 5000 to 6500rpm and 15 to 17degee at 6500 till 9k ( constant at 10psi 100% throttle) ...how much knock volt I should be start worrying?

I don't think my coolant temp and air temp calibration is correct in the EMS ...can someone give me a correct calibration ( yes I searched, someone posted it on there but it's still incorrect )

I was tuning the Vtec , I can feel that the car is losing power as the vtec engage, I want to know how much " vtec spark offset " i should set at , I assume it should be positve number because it advance the timing ? also how much fuel I should added when vtec kick in?

it is complete stock motor
550cc injector
AEM EMS 1052
GT35R

THANK YOU

Disclaimer- Please stop tuning and start reading...

1 volt of knock in VTEC is nothing. There is a post on the forums (I believe here) about what the knock voltage limits should be. Knock was logged with 100 octane gas and those values were used as a baseline. Knock volts are highly dependent on RPM. The AEM base map knock control works okay if you enable it as is, but it may be better to use the values people have derived from research.

I highly recommend against increasing ignition timing until it knocks and then backing off (especially without knock control).

I posted corrected IAT and ECT tables on here. They came from posts a long time ago (either on here or the AEM forums) where somebody actually heated the sensors and measured their values. The AEM base map values come from the sensor spec sheets.

How are you tuning? Did you randomly choose ignition values, or do you have a process for determining if they are correct? Do you have access to a dyno? a wideband? Or are you street tuning by 'feel'?

VTEC spark offset is the least of your worries. Don't mess with it yet. The fuel offset can sometimes be helpful.

What type of manifold are you using?

I looked at the log. It doesn't look bad (though you probably could touch up the fueling a bit). Try to get more time in gear from a lower RPM without backing off the throttle (WOT all the way). That will give you a more useful log.

i really appreciate your help , I actually search alot before i started dial in the ignition map, alot of members on here post their map and then I compared with each other with similar setup like mine . I am doing the street tune with the wideband , once I get the a/f correct and no knock occur then i will take it to the dyno to fine tune.

It is a log style manifold made by revhard

currently I am running around 14-17 ignition timing at 10psi do you think i can run maybe 1-3 degree advance with running 93 octane and FMIC

the Log is actually with Vtec non-engage because I need to make sure I set it up correctly " spark offset " and " fuel added" I assume it inhale more air i should advance more timing and add more fuel but I am not sure...can somebody tell me what is the value It should be set at

Thank you again

Try moving the VTEC up to around 6500 rpm. That should help with the loss in power you feel when VTEC engages. I do the offsets only if they're necessary. Usually, you can get away without having much of an offset, if any.

Tim,

usually you run two dyno's, one with and one without the VTEC enabled on the whole run. Where the two curves meet is the optimal point to set the VTEC, I think it's a bit off to tell him to set it at 6500 without knowing the specific power band of his car.

Or was it for a special purpose?

It was just a guess. I've done dyno tuning of log and tubular manifolds. Normally the log manifolds wind up around 6500 if not higher.

You can do two runs one with and one without it engaged. I normally move it up and down over the course of a few runs to find the best location.
