Before you dump any time and money into fans, confirm the setting in the aem. Then have the ac system checked.

I had an identical problem years ago with aem. A shop confirmed the pressure was fine in the ac system but it was not flowing well. I changed the cheaper item which was the valve near the battery but it ended up being the ac compressor had failed.

They could've know the ac compressor was bad when they checked pressures unless they just evacuated the system and refilled to spec.

Huh? We did evacuate the system. We tested as much as we could and found either valve or comprrssor was bad. I did the valve first which didnt fix the issue. Then i did the compressor and that fixed the issue

Before they evacuated the system they could've checked pressure on the high and low side with the gauges on the ac machine or manifold gauges. With the car running and ac on, they could have determined a problem without having you replace a valve first. A faulty compressor is easy to spot with gauges. You're high side would be too low, or low side too high and or gauge needles would fluctuate. I'm just saying, the shop should have seen the faulty compressor before having you replace the expansion valve.

If it's easy to reproduce like car idling when hot, then just do that in driveway with gauges on. Sounds like compressor kicking off. Should be easy to have a shop do this as well.

mine are set up to cycle. And come on with the a/c just like stock.

Im going to evac my system in the next couple of days and see if i was low on freon and properly fill it to spec. (although i think my a/c is just fine)

I might just have to add higher flowing fans. To over come the restriction of the heat exchanger.

You could just top of the system yourself to see if that fixes the issue. I'm betting that's all it needs and you'll be back to cold AC all the time.
You were right. I had a buddy loan me his gauge set. Turns out i was a little low. Its shocking how even a little low will cause this. I didnt even use a half can ( maybe even 1/4 can)

a/c blowing ice cold at idle with 95+ ambient I left the car idling for 15 min the driveway with the hood down in front of a bush (to block some airflow) Never got the slight bit warm.

Wanted to post my results. Hope this helps someone in the future!!

Unless I can see an actual failure (compressor or leak), I always start with topping off the system. It's an easy way to fix your type of problem and is good practice to check/top off yearly.

Good to hear that's all it was.
