^^ i agree, but that shouldnt cause me to detonate... i should only make less power... right?

if the exhaust is plugged up the egt's will go way up and you will get some preignition. I have seen this happen several times.

a GOOD stock cat/stock exhaust should not present a problem, although i would not try to make more than about 280-300hp on the stock stuff.

but to give you an idea what an exhaust will do, i tuned a 00 civic si with a drag turbo kit bolted to the stock exhaust/cat.. we swapped that out for a 3inch from the downpipe back, the car picked up 65hp on the same boost level.

I would assume so, however you have to consider that this backpressure could be leading to higher pressure inside the exhaust manifold causing exhaust reversion. High pressure in the exhaust manifold can cause bad reversion and that makes detonation happen. Still though, I wouldnt think a 60mm exhaust to cause knock. AFR's are good I assume?

He installed a test pipe in place of the stock cat yesterday and for a Greddy turbo kit the test pipe along with his exhaust should be pretty damn good. Dont forget these kits creep to hell if the exhaust is too free'd up.

Let us know how things turn out.

Boost creep possibly..

Try to heat-soak the car on the dyno, with the hood closed, to replicate what occurred.

For 300HP, your exhaust will be restrictive over the OEM catalyst. Replacing both with high-flow will be beneficial for HP.

If your cat is melted internally, it could be from 1) running too rich, 2) excessive blow-by.

Assess the condition of your engine...check leak-down and compression numbers to have a baseline for the future tests. This will help you monitor engine health.

Gauges. Get oil pressure and manifold pressure. Watch for boost creep.
Add temperature for oil and coolant also if you can.

did anyone else not read that? dude, sounds like youre running lean. that tip should be black/brown from the carbon.. white means lean and/or too hot.

if the base is black afr is good, if the tip is white then thats typical of timing/heat issues.

lower egt's, or run a colder plug
