Yes and no.

I see where you're coming from and you make valid points with the linearity and predictable power coming out of the corners. You're basically saying that its smoother coming out of the corners because it doesnt have lag. Essentially yes you're right. I'll give two examples. My first two setups on my s2000 had lag and the transient response was next to nothing. Meaning, it was an Off/On switch therefore giving that hard hit pulling out of a corner and obviously hitting the boost at the wrong time spells trouble.

We're with you on that.

But as much as you're disccusing about the power delivery, the key things you're saying are LAG and timing of TQ delivery. If you've looked at the dynosheets, you'd realize that the tq appears to come on "soft". But this is actually creating tq way down low and eliminating Lag and increasing the transient response.

In other words, coming out of the corners and laying into it, there isn't the "off/on" switch that traditional turbo setups experience. Mind you, having my car turboed for the 3rd time and having experience in this. I totally understand what you're saying. And what i'm saying along with Metros and Toan are saying, with the transient response and the linearity of the Ptuning turbo kit, it literally feels almost like a v8 under the hood. The power delivery is so smooth, that its just straight pull. and this is where this kit shines around the twisties and corners. and the car is much much more predictable because you dont really have that "kick" like most turbo's do.

I've driven sc'd s2000's, sc'd s2000's with gears, so i've had the joy of experience both sc'd and turbo cars. Both are great.

But like you said, if you can get a turbo to essentially mimic what a supercharger does in its linearity and response, then the twisties would be doable with a turbo much like a sc'r. Well.. This kit does.

Heres an example of the graph.

The PTuning turbo kit does, to a certain extent, redefine how power can be made with a turbocharger. Look at Eternallx's dyno graph as an example and you'll get a better understanding of what he is talking about in terms of broad usable power.




As you can see, the PTuning kit with a larger 500+whp capable GTX30R turbo makes the same or more torque than the Kraftwerks SC running 14psi at any RPM. Remember that the KW SC is known to make more midrange torque than a standard centrifugal SC too. BTW, this 14psi set-up is mostly a unicorn cause you can only safely run 12psi with it.

From these 4 dynos it looks to me if stay in the 6k+ RPM range the PTuning kit keeps an almost constant TQ where the others keep increasing through out the rev range. Would this not be the most predictable setup? Maybe I am reading them wrong..


Also as far as other non motor supporting mods I am thinking a set of ap2 rims with the fattest tires I can stuff on them as well as the ford 8.8 rear end. The ap2 rims are basically a sure thing while the 8.8 is still on the fence..

What you're seeing is with the SC making tq as the boost rises... hitting max boost while hitting max HP at the PEAK of the RPMS. right at redline...

The Tq you see from the turbo chart is the tq hits WAY down low and HOLDS hit til the redline.

Think of it this way. you have 2 s2000's. both EXACTLY identical. same weight, same driver, ect. One is SC'd and one is TC'd. They both make 300whp and 200ft Tq. nothing different with HP/TQ numbers. With a Turbo, that 200TQ will be reached way down low in the rpms pushing the s2000 further quicker because it's hitting max boost sooner.

Where as the SC has to make that SAME power and tq right at Redline. you can see that the turbo s2000 would pull.

And this is where S2000junky was saying. The TQ would come on strong at the early RPMS but he was referring to Lag and the instant hit of TQ which he's correct, that turbo's do that. Its their characteristic. This is definitely in most cases, however, with the ptuning kit, the tq is almost instant and comes on very smoothly, thus not giving that "hit" of tq and push.

In all my experiences with turbo cars that i've owned and sc'd cars that i've driving *mainly s2000's*, with the wrong kit, you'll get what S2000Junky is explaining. With the right kit, like Ptuning's kit, you'll think you had a V8 under the hood...

No not all because of turbo, but the power hit that was so controllable in a straight, was insane and near deadly in a corner. Again, I was the cause of that and not the turbo, but it didn't help. Just a reminder to be careful.

geez here we go again turbo vs sc...I just spent 40 minutes looking for that video awile back it was a 500whp s2000 sc vs a 500whp s2000 turbo

...from a 2nd gear or higher roll on the straights the turbo pulled away every time ( of course ) but from a 1st gear roll on the straights and up the sc pulled away because the s2000 had a linear power band which is GREAT for acceleration and traction...the turbo s2000 it was said in the video has to deal with boost spikes and traction issues do to the not so linear power band making it lose from a low gear roll

CAN ANYONE POST THE VIDEO I CAN'T FIND IT AND I KNOW IT WAS POSTED HERE ON THE FI FORUM

Now imagine having do deal with the turbo spooling up full boost mid turn...of course with the right set of tires that can be controlled...Im JUST SAYING the sc would be theoretically better for the twisties

all this comparison of dynos is awesome and all. But its all paper talk, it makes sense if your staying WOT the whole time.

However we are talking about the twisties. Where you'll be on/off the throttle pretty much constantly, sometimes WOT is not possible given the upcoming road conditions/corners.

In that respect this is where a s/c would provide a superior driveability. Since you ALWAYS know exactly how the car will respond at any given rpm.

The turbo however will constantly be spooling up/down, and there is no telling how fast the turbo will be spooling when you get back on the throttle or how quickly it will get back into boost. This is where having a smaller/more responsive turbo will come in handy, but there has to be a good balance otherwise you'll be roasting your tires @ low speeds and putting yourself sideways and down the mountain.

I personally am in the same delimma. I love the twisties, but I had a KW s/c and the power was awesome, however, it was not quite enough everywhere except on the mountain roads. I love the predictablity of the KW kit.

But now i want more, So i am going with the FullBlown twinscroll 6262, I understand there will be some lag, but i like the ablity to up/down the boost given conditions (ie mountain or flat land driving)
