Default Upgraded Boost S/C and CA Smog

I am really tempted to pick up a Comptech S/C kit but I know I will be needing more boost then stock. I really would like to go LoveFab, but the thought of swapping it on and off every other year and dealing with getting pulled over (been there, done that) just doesn't seem worth it to me anymore.

I figure at least with the Comptech kit I am safe if pulled over, regardless of how much I am boosting. What concerns me is Smog. The EMS/Injectors aren't going to pass so I would need to swap them back every time. When people switch to an EMS do they still use the rising rate FPR or do you just use the EMS? How hard overall would it be to switch back and forth between the high and low boost setups?

I am intersted in a 9lb setup, so I won't be running a headgasket.

With the current law on emmissions you won't be required to show smog until 2010 for your 04. A turbo kit will only get you in trouble if your asked to pop your hood.

As for a SC setup... you can switch between stock boost and a 9lb fairly easily.

Just return the stock pulley on the blower and return the stock ECU and comptech ESM. Keep your EMS and maps for after the smog and then return the configuration after your done.

Your probably fine with leaving in the aftermarket injectors...which you may or may not even have.

It will run way to rich with the aftermarket injectors and factory ECU

When you go back to the factory ECU, use the factory injectors. It's not a problem since you don't run it in boost while smogging.

No rising rate with the AEM EMS.

I didn't realize they changed it so you can wait 6 years. I thought it was still 4. That changes everything. I don't mind pulling off the turbo 4 years from now, but it still is a little risky in the bay area with a front mount.

As for smogging it, my concern was that with stock ECU and no FPR it would be really dangerous if the engine did see boost. You never know what the smog guy is going to do after you hand over the keys...
