Default Vortech units that run lean

This is not what I recommend if you have the means to get a real fuel management system like an AEM EMS or something of the kind. But if you need to get richer quick, this is one way to do it.

After seeing some threads recently about vortech kits running lean I thought I would share a quick "fix" to the problem. First make sure your fuel lines are secure. Then take apart the top half of the FMU and if you add to the resistance of the spring, you can raise the fuel pressure in the fuel rail, which in turn richens up the mixture. The easiest way to do this is to add a "layer" between the metal disc and the spring, essentially tightening up the spring. Adding a little less than 1/8" has taken me from 14.0 in vtec to 12.8ish.

Again, this is adding greater pressure to the fuel rail than normal and in general this is not the best solution.

**Always check your fuel pressure after this at the rail to make sure you haven't taken it too high.**

One thing I would like to add, you only need to take apart the top half of the FMU. Leave the valve part (bottom) alone. It uses an o-ring that expands when saturated. If it pops out of its bevel, you will have a damn hard time fitting that sucker back in. I learned this the hard way.

Thanks for the info!!! Also, do you think replacing the FMU with an AEM FPR and upping the fuel pressure would help?

Turning the FPR pressure up and increasing the the return line pressure via the FMU are basically doing the same thing, just in semi-different ways.

If you already got the FPR then you might as well use it.

The only real big difference between a FPR and the Vortech provided FMU is that the FMU wasn't made to be adjustable.

I must've missed something but how did you add a layer? I've very interested. Kindda annoyed that it seems to be a common problem with the Vortech kit.
