Default waiting to go FI

Hey FI guys.

I have been contemplating taking the plunge to FI for quite some time. I am just starting to think the s is a little slow and would like to make it special again. I am looking to get that feeling back when I first drove the car about 4 years ago. The car is not my DD. I enjoy working on the car, and would try to install whatever it is I end up with.

I have been following the different options for FI the past few years. I thought that Comptech or vortech was the answer, but I find that many guys want more speed soon after the installation, and some soon sell the SC to go turbo. Then the postive displacement blowers have been the new news, but who knows when they will come out??? I fully understand the difference between how Turbo and cetrifugal chargers deliver power and the area under the curve.

Then there is turbo. I know this may be the best for power, but I am not too sure I want to go through the expenses of the tuning along with the need to pop the hood all the time to check things out. The other thing that bothers me with the turbo is that I live in New York, and I would need to play the game in order to pass inspection. We also do not have many guys in the area that know how to tune the S with and AEM (unless I am wrong??), and all turbo guys say that longevity is in the tune.

Is the Greddy Kit worth waiting for? No tune needed, and it will be cheaper than the SC, perhaps even under 4K dollars.

So, that brings me back to vortech SC(no more comptech). The price of the chargers are around 5 grand now for an AP2!!!!!!!!!! Is it worth the price to uprgade the clutch(I have 20K miles on the car), and buy the SC. I was thinking I could always change the pulley if I needing some more power.

Do you guys think I will be happy with a SC purchase? I am not a speed freak, so I am guessing the car will feel fast. I just don't want to feel that I did not get my moneys worth. Are you guys happy with your superchargers. Is it worth the 6 grand price(with clutch), or shoud I go the hard route deal with the headaches, and just go turbo and call it a day???

Thanks for your input,

Scott

i think S/c is more than enough power for you, but is not just the S/c kit and the clutch, if you need more power 350+ you are looking for another 2k + for the aem ems + injectors and yes for tunning too..

just the kit and clutch = 300 - 310 whp.

And yes the key on the turbo setup is the tuner =)

Thanks S2Guru,

so what I think when I read your response is I may want to up the boost soon(like most guys do) on a SC, which will require an AEM, injectors, and a tune. Plus that may be a pain to pass smog.

perhaps I just should go turbo and get the all the HP I need and the greater potential do get bigger numbers.

I put about 18k+ miles on my Vortech WITHOUT any issues. If immediate power is what you're looking for then turbo is the F/I you'd want...I like how the car feels stock when out of boost and when you feel the need, just drop a couple gears and POW!!

I'd have to say, I'm satisfied with my Vortech.

heres my dyno..done a couple months ago with my 18" wheels

mods

Vortech S/C
ACT
T1R TP

depends on the dealer...also depends what type of warranty work you need done.if something goes wrong with your top I'm sure they'll fix it under warranty as they did mine.
