You didn't look at his concerns JDM. He wanted reliability first!

I have to agree on that^^^

I love turbos and I am going turbo but I know that theres more involed in a turbo set up vs. a SC.. a SC is a bolt on kit that really doesnt even need a new ECU... but with a turbo set up, you will have to think about many differant things that mite go wrong.. If you are going with a turbo set up and with low boost then I am sure you will be fine.. but if you get a turbo and want more power, you have to replace many things after...

I was also referring specifically to all the issues the pfab kit seams to have.

Edit: oops I was thinking lovefab, where can I get more info on the pfab kit? As far as I can find they make mostly domestic stuff.

I'm gonna say exactly what I tell everyone... if you go F/I, make sure you have the extra cash to fix things that go wrong.

I spent $3500 on a used Vortech kit and had to buy a new fuel pump (2, actually), s/c belt and serpentine belt (not expensive but those things add up). I also decided that it wasn't worth going F/I without engine management. I had problems with the ECU right off the bat and I kept having to reset it or else it wouldn't boost properly. If you want to be happy with your boost just keep in mind the extra expenses. Doesn't mean you can't do it within your price limit, but you never know what will happen.

And please be very careful if you look on ebay! I know too many people who have been scammed. Good luck!

With a 4k budget, a turbo setup is definitely out of the picture. I'm sure someone will chime in say how they pieced together their kit for $28 dollars, but by the time they have it running reliably with no problems you will pass your budget easily. Also, if reliability is your main concern, than a SC is definitely the better choice. It takes a lot of work and down time other than the initial install to have a totally reliable turbo setup. It can definitely be done, but it takes time and work, so I would say stay with the SC'er. Also, you should look to upgrade your clutch. With stock boost you can get away with the stock clutch for a little while, but it will start slipping if you drive aggressively. I would set aside another 1k for a cluch. Good luck with finding a good used kit.

... not because you can't get all that stuff for $4k (JDM S2000 I'm not trying to say it can't be done), but I wish people had warned me of ALL the miscellaneous expenses involved with FI.

Even with 9lbs on a s/c kit, I've spent about 8k in the past 3 months.
