Custom LED running lights

any chance these would fit in the faux brake ducts on an AP1? Make a little slit across the bottom for them to fit in, might look pretty badass....
I was just thinking that....
I think that looks really nice... being an LED-product manufacturer and self-proclaimed lighting guru, I'm glad someone pointed me to this thread. I may have to play with something similar when time permits.

Sorry about my abscence guys.
If anyone wants to do something like this, I'd be more than willing to help out with some ideas on how to get it all done such as heat-forming the plexiglass diffuser or other bits. I know many of you thought puting the lights in the faux brake cooling ducts would look really cool. I thought of doing that myself if puting them in the OE chin-spoiler didn't work out. The biggest reason I didn't want to cut into the bumper was . . . well, the bumper costs a lot more to replace if I screwed up. You only have one chance to get this right, otherwise you have a bumper that looks vandalized.
Also, I just wanted to touch on an earlier subject regarding the AJ's racing lights. Keep in mind that these lights are mounted perpendicular to the rail. If you were to mount this particular kit outside of the grill of the car, such as the brake ducts, they would shine outward at an angle to the direction the car was facing. The rails that I designed, compensate for this change in angularity, and therefore shine outward like the headlights would. Also, the AJ's racing are pre-fab, therefore any modification would be very difficult, and would most likely ruin them. They would have to be the EXACT size to fit in the brake ducts in the bumper to work in the first place.
Just a quick thought, you could use the AJ's racing lights in the faux brake ducts if you wanted something a mit more subtle than seeing the sharp points of light. You could take advantage of the light-chaneling nature of acrylic material. The light would be scattered (fuzzy) but plexiglas has the ability to chanel light much like fiber-optics (not quite as efficient though). Shine the LEDs into the edge of a small piece of acrylic, and the light will exit as if the material were the source of the light. Again, the lights themselves would be mounted hidden inside the bumper and the edge of the acrylic be "frost" diffused for this to work, but I'm not 100% certain. Might take some experimentation . . .
I think this project could be done quite easily. Just keep in mind that you have to take into consideration all the variables and added material that will be affecting how much space this system actually takes up.
Since you are working with LEDs, you will need a voltage filter/regulator to keep the flow of energy steady. This is important with cars because their 12 volt system often ranges between 12 and 14.5 volts. Mine certainly did when I checked it. The regulators are really cheep though, and can handle a large array of lights.
Again, I am more than willing to help anyone who wants to do something like this. It doesn't HAVE to be what I did. Just send me an e-mail or PM
Sorry for the book.

Porsche Turbo has the LED turn signals in the brake cooling duct bumpers, I am going for that type of application/look.

Just came back from P-car dealer to check on my allocation and also the LED lights - they happen to have a 997 Turbo there....
The lights are nice and they light up amber - only 6 LED's across with a "194" type blue bulb at the end. The contours look similiar to an s2k but it's way too short IMO since the s2k headlight is soo wide.
The new Cayenne Turbo also has a similiar LED light but they did not have one in stock for me to examine. I still like the Audi lights the most with the spacing.....

Aside from my own bias toward my car's setup, between the 997 and the Audi, I think the Audi's look better visually. However, I've been toying around with the idea of putting LEDs in the S2000's brake cooling ducts. I kinda like the placement of the 997s better being in the center rather than top or bottom. If I had to choose between top or bottom, I'd go with the top like the Audi. I'd also have them flush with the outer surface of the bumper rather than resessed. Along with the lights, you could also have a black slated grait to go along with the lights. I think that would look pretty sharp.

If everyone wants to put the lights in the brake cooling cucts, then why doesnt someone start on this project? I don't like it when everyone wants something, but nobody goes through the work to do it. If you're gonna talk the talk, you better walk the walk, as the old saying goes. Pleanty of oportunites here for AP1 and AP2 alike.
So let's get started, shall we?

I already started my project and still believe cutting the bumper and using the Audi lights is the WAY TO GO for that perfect look. Stay tuned.............
Tryin to get this done for s2000 Homecoming
