Did a trackday last October. Nearing the end of my first session, the clutch started acting up, not fully disengaging. Throughout the day, it got progressively worse. Finally, it wouldn't disengage at all and I had to get the car towed home.

I thought it was just hydraulics related, and put in a new master, bled it several times - no effect, it looked like the hydraulics were fully functional. I then took to prodding the shift fork, to see if I got full range of motion - it didn't. Then at one point, I heard a 'click', like something metallic falling down.

At any rate, it was starting to get cold then, so I didn't tear anything apart until this past weekend when I installed a new SOS Sport Clutch. New bearings, and I went back to a stock (resurfaced, of course) AP1 flywheel. Previously, I had a Fidanza aluminum flywheel paired with an Exedy OEM replacement. All told, there was only about 15,000km on that set up, including the one trackday. Oh, and last spring I installed a stage 1 SOS supercharger kit.

To clarify, I think the metal on the pressure plate started to tear during the trackday, but only came apart when I was prodding the shift fork - that was the click noise I heard. That said, on the opposite side, the metal was starting to tear near one of the springs too, so it was just a matter of time. The disc just got too overheated with the demands of the trackday I think, you can see the heat scoring everywhere, and there is one localized heat score near the metal where the spring tore itself off the disc. The track is pretty short, 1.2 miles only, and I have an AP2 trans plus 4.44 gearing, so I was shifting a lot.

Same exact thing happened to my Stage 2 Competition Clutch. Spring popped out and got jammed into the pressure plate. What kind of clutch was yours?

 

The clutch was an Exedy OEM replacement with about 15,000km on it, maybe 5-6000km supercharged.

Wow, Spa is a much more glamorous venue that Stratotech Park! And I bet it cost more than $75 for the tow home too...
