State Farm is always a pain the butt, they are horrible to work with. I have been hit by State Farm clients more than once and they always act like it is your fault and they are the victim.

wow 20% only? I think I am going to the wrong lawyer

My last car accident the lawyer I had took about 40-50% (forgot about a year ago) before doctor fee's. It was a serious case where I was injured and had to get stitches. In spite that the case was very fast (only about four months turnaround time for the money).

I am just wondering is 20% the average collection for a lawyer? I'm feeling I really got jipped from my lawyer.

sorry for thread jacking, hope you (OP) get better and everything works out for you
Just depends on the area of the country and also wether they actually had to file suit or not. Once they file suit the fees go up.

They dont do anything you cant do yourself. IMO from having worked in claims before, they slow the process down and it actually takes longer to reach a settlement. Just depends whether you are comfortable dealing with it yourself. Every situation is different.

Despite what some people said, I would definitely hire a lawyer. I was rear ended and my insurance company was messing around for a month before I found out that I was going to be reimbursed. In that month my condition worsened, and I had to drop the semester due to suffering grades. I was able to recoup not only the total cost of the car and every aftermarket part in it, but also my full semesters tuition and rent.

The second they know that you are serious, is the second that they snap into a professional respect. Its a shame that it happens this way. My advice to you, try to find a family friend with some sort of legal background 99 times out of 100 it wont go to court, but knowing that you have a legal presence backing you is enough for them to deal with you respectfully.

Good luck brother.

with VVS

Dont hire a lawyer unless you don'te get what you want. His ins is more than likely going to give you what you want. They want to make you happy. A lawyer will only take your money and as vvs said they most likely wont get involved in property damage as there is no way for them to make money. If there is medical damages they will usualy negotiate cheaper rates from the docs and get a cut on backside even though thats not exactly legal. So they will get your 30-40% and then a cut off the med expenses.

This cannot be emphasized enough....GET. A. LAWYER.

Insurance companies are in the business to make lots of $$$$$$. They are going to stall, kick, fuss and play around with you and give you more shafts than a porno star in a gang bang.

Don't you guys watch those 60 Minute specials on this shit?!?! Insurance companies are out to screw you. I repeat....go to a lawyer first thing tomorrow...find a good, reputable one and go. Sue for your injuries and the car. This is the best advice, trust me.

I watched 60 mins about the lawyers that worked with the doctors and they billed the insurance companies for millions in treatment not rendered and now I am paying higher premiums. Not sure who the crooks are.

If you get a lawyer get a reputable one that is not some ambulance chaser that just wants to peice of YOUR pie.
