It's a start

Diez actually had his cut, pulled, and then a piece of metal was welded in between the gap.

I hope you guys know that these are getting repainted. I'm not doing this hack job and leaving them that way. If I was I wouldn't have made a thread about it. These will be smooth as can be when I'm done.

I'll have to check out the Arvou car more closely. I know I've seen it plenty of times but never paid attention to exactly how they flared them.

I did work on them more tonight and honestly feel like I made noticeable progress. Still bumpy but I'm at the rough stage of just trying to get the general shape before I start going to town. Toughest part by far has been trying to make a clean transition to the front bumper. I don't know how some of the guys have done it. I'm trying though. Might try to do my own rendition. As long as it looks clean and I can make the left and right side look the same I'll be happy. I will say with the car back on the ground the 17x9 +40 ce28s I have on the car now look very puny compared to how they looked before. You wouldn't think I have that size/offset on the car just looking at it.

Pics of tonight's progress will be up tomorrow.

Pics from the progress made last night. Comments/suggestions/critiques welcome!

Passenger side with only a normal roll/slight flare from fender roller

Driver side as of now. About 3 hrs of work into this so far.

Working on that sharp transition but it's proving to be very difficult to get just right. Every time I hammer and get one part how I want it, it pulls something else in another direction. The triangle part looks a little darker b/c I used a Sharpie to actually color myself a triangle to work around. It definitely helped.

hmm...is your fender buckling? The 2nd to last picture looks like it's bulging a little near the top...

Looking good.

One word of advice. Just watch how hard you ar hammering.. I know some times it takes a good strike to get ti to move but, if your really smacking it good the metal will stretch / thin out like doe under a rolling pin. I was unaware that this would happen till I was almost perfect. I noticed it cause the actual lip was wavy (stuck out more where the metal was stretched). If this happens you can work it back in and or purposely stretch the other areas to make the edge smooth. Just don't try to stretch it on purpose.. You want it to be strong. You might be able to tell mine has a little stretch in the center...

You should be getting to the point where light strikes will be enough to shape it. The front transition (cause it has the edge) will still need heavy strikes to shape it there.

Reference photos: Never mind my street set up... I do fit 275s under there

^Yeah that has been the hardest thing for me about getting good pictures. All I have is a point and shoot.

I've definitely been hammering at it pretty hard but feel like now that it's getting more towards the general correct shape that I'm not having to try so hard to get it to change. I've also noticed that the areas that have been hammered a little already seem to re-shape much more easily with a lot less force. You're definitely right about the front transition spot needing force b/c of the angles that are there.

I will keep mental note not to hammer at it but so hard unless it just isn't doing anything.

Nichigo, I don't think it's buckling at all. I think it's just the light and some of the reflections in that picture....will have to check for sure and hopefully that's all it is. I haven't touched the hammer anywhere but within 4-5 inches from the lip of the fender.

Nope. I rub on the top inside of the fender sometimes when jumping curbs In fact rubbing on the inside frame member is my biggest problem and that is with 275s up front.
