Fender Flare project build thread
More progress made this weekend although not nearly as much as I was hoping for. I'd say most of my time was spent sanding as I was trying to get down to bare metal so I could really find where they needed some work. I was hoping by the end of the weekend that they would be or be very very close to done and ready for paint....I really thought wrong and I still feel like I've got a lot more work to do. I finally had the chance to get them sanded down and actually spray primer so I could see how smooth or rough they still were....unfortunately they are still looking rather rough and my transition doesn't quite look the same from left to right...close but not identical enough. I am hoping that now that I've got all one color down where they need work that all the work I do from this point forward with the hammer and dolly will really let me see progress and know what spots do and don't need more work.
On to the pics! you can see that with the flash they look far better and don't look like they need so much work. I tried to take a couple without the flash so you can really see all the imperfections.
Before primer

No flash

It's about time I finally start kicking a$$ on these fenders!
Step 1: Beer

Step2: Actually do work

I feel like tonight in the 2 hours I spent working on this one fender I made more progress than I had all last weekend. I've been trying to take it slower and make small improvements and it seems like it's finally starting to pay off. I feel like I got the driver side shaped pretty much how I want it and if you look back to where I began you'll see how far it has come. Wasn't easy by any means. I think a lot of it is I've figure out how to use some of the dolly pieces to my advantage instead of the obvious way I thought you'd use them. The driver side still needs a bit of work but of the two it was the farthest from being done. I feel like the two sides actually look kind of similar now.
One thing I have noticed that most likely explains why my paint didn't match after it came out of the body shop. The primer on that driver fender (one that was replaced) looks like it's black. Passenger side has the pretty standard normal gray color primer under it. I don't think I've ever even seen primer that dark.
