Help plz
does anyone have any tips on removing the black film tape around the winshield to show the paint under it. (where the softtop attaches to near the weather strippings)
my friend just started from the bottom and peeled it off. of course it wasn't easy, there is still glue that he was to remove, which wont be hard with some stuff he has. it takes a min but i kinda like it.
materials: blow dryer, googone, a rag, an assistant and some patience
the tape is divided into 3 sections (top, left side, right side)
i did it from one side -> top -> other side.
here is the procedure i used and the paint underneath came out perfect, no residue, no scratches, no nothing.
-make sure your top is down.
-have an assistant warm up the tape using the blowdryer semi slowly from one side to the next about 3 times.
-then start peeling very slowly from the bottom of any side as your assistant is blow drying the part your peeling (make sure you dont burn your fingers so wear gloves or have him aim the blow dryer to the area your about to peel next.)
-sometimes there will be some residue left from the tape and as soon as you see it, use the rag and googone to remove it (dont worry, googone will not damage your paint)
-after your finished, i suggest washing and waxing the paint.
*the only tricky part is the tape extends inbetween the rubber liner on the top portion of the winshield frame. some people use an exacto knife to cut it but i just pulled the whole thing off. the bad side of doing that is their will be alot of residue inbetween the rubber liner and the top frame which is almost impossible to get rid of unless you rip apart the liner. i just left it as it is because it isnt visible anyway. good luck
also, the only reason you should do this, is if you plan on getting an oem hardtop, as it looks rediculous without it

but since you have a white car, i suggest getting a mugen hardtop and painting it black or a cf mugen hardtop (i do not suggest seibon junk). this way you wont have to go through the hassle of removing the tape and installing the extra bullshit with the oem hardtop.
