made my own intake today
yea dont pay attention to some of the comments here, creative and saved you money, if you can clean it up it will look nicer, some people don't realize K&N intakes or others are just as yours is, a tube with a filter on the end and some couplers along with small misc. items
I bought a k&n personally though as I just wanted something manufactured proven to work. Although it is what is is.
Good job though

Honestly I dont really see why some of you have to be so rude about it. It wasnt doing me good with an open airbox, so this cant be much worse in performance. Like I said, I know its bad and ghetto, but it was just for fun. Ill be getting a real name brand intake soon so no worries. It was just a fun little project due to boredom, its not like im keeping it on there. I'm just trying to do things a little differently and have a little more fun with it, and thanks to those of you that had some good things to say. I'm not trying to be mean or rude to anyone that commented, its your opinion so I cant really say anything about it, but you dont have to be THAT harsh about it.

i have a k&n fipk myself, which is basically what you just did. less ghetto, for sure, but also like 10x more expensive

Just keep in mind, some of the people on this board paid several grand over sticker when the car was first released, because it was such amazing engineering from an extremely reputable company. However, since the price of S2000s have dropped recently, especially since not too many people can afford having a 2-seat "toy" (for some, not all) in the current economy, the cars are becoming more and more attainable by younger owners that can't afford to spend top dollar on the parts for their cars, but they still want something unique. I'm a younger owner, and I know that many of my mod decisions have been limited by a tight budget. I'm OK with the fact that I don't have a stellar ride that attracts a lot of attention on here, because I simply can't come close to competing with some of the members here. On the other hand, I still absolutely love my car, and I get compliments on it all of the time that make my day.
At the end of the day, a car is just a car, and just as important to someone as they want it to be. Personally, I hate the snobby attitude that many "nice" car owners get, simply because they paid a premium for it. Heck, that is why many S2000 owners love tracking or autocrossing their cars and beating Porsches and Lotuses, because many of those guys have been classifying our cars with Civics all along, seeing it as "just a Honda."
Being an engineer, I love seeing DIY solutions to problems. As many have said, the foil does make the elbow section "ghetto" and cheap, but as others have said, you have basically made the K&N intake system for a fraction of the cost. I say pity on those who paid a couple hundred more for a simple pipe and a filter. Plus, you often learn more about your car by finding a DIY solution than just roaming online retailers and picking out the most expensive parts, then paying some local shop to install it.
Its your car, so if you like it, congrats! If you think you can save some dough by doing some of your own work, I say go for it as long as you could still remove it if it doesn't work.

The thing that I find interesting about many of the flame comments is that most of them have quoted as saying it is "rice" or "the s2k is now becoming a civic". These kind of comments are the same ones you would find on most civic tunning web forums. Might as well be on honda-tech.

i feel like the s2000 is the new civic now a days
im sorry if i offended you suzuka-blue-s2k, its just i bought my s2000 at 19 yrs old and paid $18,900 for it with 25,000 miles. Even though i still live at home and have the luxury to save a little more money, everything ive done to the car has come out of my pockets. when i see what you pieced together it just pisses me off. i mean dont get me wrong i like that you were creative about it but dude... look at it. you want people to see that under the hood of a $30,000 car. You see that under the hoods of civics. hell ive seen PVC pipe pieced together to make an intake. not tryin to be a d*** but like they been saying throw a k&n filter in it and call it a day.
