I took a couple liberties here and there to make the proportions pop a little bit more. The image was never meant to be photorealistic or 100% accurate. Call it artistic license .

As for another S2k vector image? I'd encourage it! Heck, I wish everyone here could do this stuff . You're creating your own custom image of a car we all own, so more power to you! I've even given tips to other people who have asked how to make something like this, and I don't even consider myself an expert. I just put the time in.

What's puzzling most to me is the people who obviously have the skills to piece together a composite of someone else's work in photoshop, yet are unwilling to take the time and effort to create something new and original on their own .
Your proportions are definately more agressive, with more windshield rake and shorter front end. I figured you started from a low, wide angle photo. Agreed on the artistic license: I took a few myself.

I hear you about the originality aspect. I know I've got a couple dozen hours in this thing, so I can imagine that a few minutes in photoshop must seem appealing, though it would cheese me off too.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I don't know any books or web tutorials. I'd try and find someone well versed in Illustrator to just give you the basics, and then you can explore from there.

I actually learned a lot while working on this file. Just like in photoshop, there are a dozen different ways to do the same thing in Illustrator. You just have to find the way that works best and fastest for you, and that ususally comes out with plenty of seat-time.

Man, both of you guys have got mad skills! I had no idea that these kinds of illustrations took so much time. And although I have not pirated any work, I can now see and understand why it is so upsetting when people do.

Nice job to both of you guys.

When I was teaching Computer Illustration at Tulane, I chose the "Classroom in a Book: Illustrator CS2" (AdobePress) as my textbook. I like this series because it has nice tutorials and a CD with example to work from. As a result, it's a little more expensive than the typical self-help computer book (around $50), but I've found it very successful with beginners.

After using the program for so long, I'm not in the position where I have to learn from scratch, just learn the new, incremental features. However, I do a lot of training and I find this series works well for beginners. Adobe Illustrator isn't an easy program, so practice will be your best teacher.

George Lucas said movies are never finished, merely abandoned.

I think it's time to abandon this....

I set the file up with a Spot color for the car body, and was able to easily switch the car color...

What the hell do I do with them now??
