A retiree's mods
Ended up using zip ties to remedy this problem that developed on a recent road trip:

I've also ordered, as a preventative measure, a 5' roll of Tear-Aid 3"x5" Type B patches from Cabelas per Triple-H's suggestion here: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=569412

I've always liked the feel of a high quality wood shift knob like the one I had in a '58 TR3A many many years ago. There have been a few folks who made and offered custom walnut or other wood knobs in the past. Runs were small and none currently are in production.
Voodoo knobs started out with the Miata community. I had one on my '96 MX5 and as indicated in this thread I have a spun pearl Voodoo on my S2K. But the bug for a nice wood shift knob has hit me again; and remembering a guy that offered them to the Miata folks, I looked him up. Joe Fortas, aka The Knobmeister, is making me a custom 10 x 1.5 threaded countersunk and lead weighted knob in either padouk or mahogany (asked him to look at his stock and pick the wood with the nicest contrasting grain with red highlights) with a laser engraved S2K shift pattern.
Once in hand and installed I'll be posting pictures here.

The 1 7/8" standard size mahogany knob with crisp gold filled shift pattern arrived today from Joe Portas aka The Knobmeister.
Here it is in the wrap from Joe Portas next to the same sized Voodoo aluminum knob I've been using.

And a side shot showing the larger collar

Here's a shot showing the height of the installed Voodoo knob

And a like short of the Knobmeister installed (colors heavily washed out unfortunately)

But here is a more color accurate in situ shot of the knob installed:

A couple of quick comments:
-- yes, it is lighter at about 3.25 ounces than the Voodoo but since I've never had any "notchiness" issues with my tranny it is not an issue for me.
-- yes, it sits a tad higher than the Voodoo (at about 3/8" more) which is still much lower than the Honda OEM knob.
- Cost? $45 knob + $15 shift pattern engraving + $2 SH = $62
I like it!!!

Updated the initial post's summary of mods with the Knobmeister above and the JTKPro red powdercoated fuel rail cover I installed today. This new picture also shows the NRG dampers with their black tape ring removed.

Another update.
Picked up some additional "spares" to tide me over
-- Installed Fram FV388 PCV valve
-- set of NGK BKR7EIX-11 (#6988) iridium plugs for the upcoming 30k service
-- Goodyear Gatorback serpentine belt #GTR-4060578 as a road trip emergency spare
-- Took advantage of the TireRack closeout and got:
Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R: 2each F205/55R16 + 4eachR225/50R16
along with another set of Hankook Ventus R-S2 R245/45ZR16 rears
Put the car back on the road effective today given the early spring we're now seeing after sub-zero temps last week. Normally it's the first week of April, but this year we're two weeks early which works for me
The trunk rack is still off as I removed it for winter storage. I won't reinstall it until a specific road trip requires it.
