Earlier I'd mentioned that I really needed to get around to installing the DIY cup holder mod described here: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...c=269896&st=0&

Well I ended up with what I think is a better solution, at least for my needs. That DIY holder is simply that.... a holder. What I wanted was one that provided additional insulation beyond whatever bottle I was using to help keep things cool longer. My answer was a Lowe Alpine Waistbelt bottle pocket which features a stiff flat velcro rear as wide and tall as the pocket itself. That stiffness allows the top edge to be tucked under the center console leather cover.

It remains fairly securely in place although pulling a bottle out may dislodge the tucked portion from the center console. I know I can make this arrangement more secure to obviate this but frankly I'm content with it as is, at least for now

Works for me

Addendum: separate thread in the Mods area on this bottle holder approach:

Nice job Bob, I also found a cup holder that "tucks" under the center console. It would be a hassle to remove all the time though. How would you clean it?

alSpeeds2k,

The Lowe bottle holder is constructed like any other piece of hiking / backpacking gear and can easily be hand washed if needed. And it really is no hassle at all to insert the bottle holder's top lip under the console cover or remove it.

Snowmoto,

Not at all surprised about your father. Seems the "older" generation likes the classic wood knobs whereas you youngsters prefer the chrome and carbon fiber stuff. The good thing is that there is enough of everything aftermarket to satisfy every taste

You sound like my youngest son (age 31) who has "liberated" that car to be his DD. Unfortunately its on the sidelines right now for some transmission issues.
