I don't see how people can complain about bashing their heads into the cage during a street accident... it's the same thing if you bashed your head into the window... chances are you're going to hit the air bag on the street... unless you get into a serious accident, in which case you're screwed either way.
How much does a 6 point cage stiffen the car? Is it noticeable?

I've been thinking about picking up a cage since with my GIAS lowmax seats it'd be almost impossible to hit my head on the cage... Unless I'm sitting on 2 pillows or something. But then again, since I drive my car maybe once a week, I don't think I fall under the "daily driver" category...

Agreed if yout gonna track the car do not buy the imitation off road only roll bars. Buy a hard dog. I can post pictures if you want them. I look at it this way. Would you rather look cool have a nice blue cage or would you rather be alive when you roll it? Again, buy the HardDog and live to tell about it. Nuff said.
@cuonice that is why they make roll bar padding. Granted I am talking about a roll bar and not a cage. I think it is more dangerous to drive the s2000 factory where my head is over top of the roll hoops. I would rather take a banged up head off some roll bar padding instead of breaking my neck in a roll over.
My honest question in everyone of these threads about how you automatically die from having a 6 pt cage in a street car after getting into a 3 mph collision with a shopping cart is this..........
Why is the roll bar instant death and the A piller/B pillar and so on perfectly fine to crash into with a naked head?

WOW!! Ok, who spiked the Haterade? I can see where a lot of people are coming from, on many points that are being made.
As far as "imitation cages" looking gay; Yes, genuine parts with function in mind are taken more seriously than parts installed for show purposes. But not everyone who installs a cage wants to track their car, so you can't assume they're a "poser." And in any case, looks are always a matter of personal opinion.
As far as function and protection of bolt-in cages; Any cage bolted to the chassis will stiffen it some. Obviously some will be more affective than others, and a welded cage installed by a proffessional shop will do the most good. But are you going to tell me a cage of steel pipes bolted to the chassis of the car are going to weaken its stiffness? And if you look at the photos of S2000GT's car post-crash, you can see that the cage was actually stronger than the frame around the windshield, which is reenforced from the factory.
I don't have the money to seriously mod my car for track readiness at the moment. Until that time, I think the Cusco cage looks good. It's made to be used and is strong enough for Japanese drivers. Just because SCCA doesn't accept it doesn't mean it's super weak and dangerous. And maybe I'm a midget or something, but at 5'7"-5'8" (depending on what footwear I'm sporting
) my head would never be able to reach the top bar on a cage. And since I have been in 2 accidents in my S, I can say from experience that you would have to be in a major wreck to worry about hitting your head on the cage anyway. (the first, a guy pulled out in front of me and I plowed into the back of him. The second, someone tapped me from behind in a rainstorm and spun me into the k-rail on the freeway)
Ok, that all I have to rant about. Let me just end on this; isn't this in the Gallery section? How come there is only 1 picture for every 25 posts? I know this makes me a hypocrite. What ya gonna do?
