excuse my ignoramous but could someone clarify what happend here. I thought he fixed the situation and popped off the second ring and put only one in the way it was supposd to be and got everything back to normaly minus the spilled oil all over the place (which he said didnt burn) so what was the cause of this fire...
So I got that taken care of
He didn't specify what "taken care of" means. Even if he did take the filter off and removed the extra gasket and put the filter back on, it doesn't appear as though he cleaned off any of the oil that had most likely sprayed onto the exhaust header. This is what likely caught fire. The rise in temps then caused the other spilled oil in the engine bay to ignite (as it was also being heated up to near ignition temp).

I was using a fram filter a while back.
Just like this guy, I change the oil and make sure the other filter gasket was removed. It was good. Drove to work. On the way home I smell something burning and realize it is my car.
I just caught it and put out the fire as it was starting.
Come to find out the filter gasket had cracked and I squirted out 2 and a half quarts of oil.
Thank god for Autozone being open late. So after a few more months of driving I find out later that Spun a bearing on the number four rod.

So needless to say I won't be using Fram
I don't have any pics and through the filter out. So now I am rebuilding and that has taken some time just to get a new rotating assembly. Sucks when your warrenty runs out.
