^^^the problem with a 10" wheel would be the tire maybe? anyone have a pic of a 245 on a 10 inch wheel? the needed 255 tire might be the only thing that kills the 10 inch wheel idea!

I'm pretty sure a 255 tire on a 10 inch wheel will be stretched a bit because my 255s sit flush on a 9inch wheel. With a stretch, you will be able to run a more aggressive offset.

You guys are sort of on the right track. However...you can't "convert" width to offset straight up. Example...you can't say 10 +45 = 9 +33. While it is correct both of those offsets will result in the edge of the rim sticking out equal distances, they have DIFFERENT rim center planes. The offset determines where the center plane of the rim will be. Why is this important? Because the center plane of the rim will determine how far the TIRE will stick out. width does not dictate where the tire sticks out...it's the offset. With that said, it's MUCH safer to go 10 +45 than 9 +33 because the 10 +45 wheel has a center plane that is farther inside the fender. A 245 on a 9 +45 will stick out just as much as a 245 tire on a 10 +45. The only difference between those two setups is that the rim lip will stick farther out on the 10". However, on a 9 +33, a 245 tire will stick farther out resulting in 12mm less clearance than the 10 +45. Even though the lips on both specs line up, the tire mounting point has shifted over due to the offset changing the center plane of the rim.

Tires are the most important thing to consider when calculating clearance. You can't say what width/offset will clear without considering how the tire will mount relative to that width/offset.

One of the biggest mistakes I made in determining my setup was thinking that Sinji's 17x10 +35 FN01R-C setup on 255 tire was equivalent to a 17x9 +22 on 255's. While the rim edges on both setups stick out just as much, my tire sticks out farther than his because the center plane of my wheel is 13mm farther out than his. I went through hell trying make up for the difference.

so why arent more people running 10 +45? seems like that would be a valid choice after reading and understanding what you said nick. If I wanted to retain the 255 it would be easier to go with the 10 over the 9 +35 simply because the tire would be recessed back a fraction more......

however again using a 9+63 as a starting point. the 10+45 would sit 30.7mm further out from the car and the 9+35 would sit 28mm further out from car. so take the RE01R at 255 and calculate the savings of going with the 10?

you start out 2.7mm out farther but make up exactly how many mm because the tire is recessed?

bserious.... you say the stretched 255 on a 10 would enable more clearance but would it be enough to overide the 2.7mm? Im assuming the 10+45 ce's would have ever so slightly more clearance than the 9+35.
