Stretched tires
God... my last car was a VW and this is the big fad for the "euro" look (not my term, just using the parlance of our time). It is purely for looks most of the time. Sometimes it is done to make the tire fit inside the fender.
My thoughts:
1. Why would you want to have less contact patch than a wheel can allow? If I buy a 10" wheel, I want to but a 275 or 285 on it to get the most grip possible. Not to mention the air pressure required to stretch the tire makes the tire "ballon" so that you get uneven wear and even less contact patch .
2. Why would you want it to be easier to unseat your tires from the wheel bead under lateal g-load? This has been beat to death, but i stand by the position that extreme stretch is a safty hazard.
3. Why would you want to be able to DESTROY the lip of you wheel on a curb? Theose wheels have no protection or support from the tire sidwall. If you run them on a curb, or un over something sizable, you can pretty much kiss the wheel goodbye.
Just doesnt make sense to me.

[QUOTE=djdorifto,Feb 8 2008, 01:59 PM] few reasons why people do these... getting the actually size for tires might be really expensive.. Lets say 17x12 wheels, tire will be like 345... Know how much that would be? Also, the tire might not fit under the car, so stretching a small size tire will work better that won't rub.
This isn't my work though, it was posted by a friend of mine... Heres a video of the process...

Sinji, your new setup looks great to me. The old one was too much.
