For those who aren't aware, I'll post my exhaust to help with future "what type of exhausts?" questions that lead someone to the search engine.
I replaced my Tanabe Racing Medalion with carbon fiber canister mufflers and subsequently replaced THEM with my Supertrapp system using the OEM Tanabe plumbing from the cat to the Y-point. OEM weight of catback is 52-lbs and this total system came in at 28-lbs, nearly as light as a single while retaining the dual look. If someone could host a wav. file, I have a 5-second burst of what it sounds like.
To date, one of my favorite mods. Not annoying at idle but definitely a head-turner at WOT for the unsuspecting. It's louder than stock at idle but only mildly so. The tone sort of remains "normal" until VTEC and then all hell breaks loose past 6100 rpm's. More superbike than car, if that makes any sense.
Definitely a sound that would be more at home on a track than on a public road but db-wise, about on par with the Tanabe. I get more comments on this exhaust than you could imagine because most people have never even heard of a Supertrapp and invariably ask, "what the heck are those? Where the hell does the exhaust go?"
I get thumbs up though from the motorcycle guys. They seem to approve. Especially after a quick visit to 9K. That always seems to get them nodding in agreement. It just seems to be a perfect match, these mufflers and the high rev nature of the car. Not quite as "in your face" as the canisters size-wise but large enough to send a message. As far as performance goes, I'm up on horsepower compared to the Tanabe (Tazzo 30-70mph times are down) but I wouldn't speculate on the difference #-wise. For those who understand the Supertrapp concept, I'm running 12 discs for maximum flow at high revs. I have no use for more horsepower pulling into drive-thrus so I want my gains up top. Running with fewer discs will increase backpressure for better torque down low but restrict the gains above VTEC.
Wow looks good, this is the second Honda I think I've seen with a Supertrapp muffler, if I remember correctly FFS Dylan had one back in the day on his EG. I don't think his was stainless though but yeah I'm rambling looks good man =)
Comparing anything to a legit F1 sound would be an insult to my fav driver, Juan Pablo, but it is very high pitched (like a superbike) yet deeper, which is why it sounds so different. Unlike most S2000 exhausts (and this could be argued until the cows come home), I find very little difference in tone between them all and I've heard more than 15 available exhaust systems (various wav files) for the S2000. The biggest differences are the db levels but for the life of me, I can't really detect large variations in the tone. Some confuse LEVEL with TONE but as a guitar player for three decades (Gary Moore, Michael Schenker rock on!) I feel my ears are a bit more locked in on the differences. For example, my girl loves the look of the Supertrapps more than my Tanabe RM but thinks they all sound the same. It really takes a trip to VTEC for most of these systems to express their individuality but there is only so much variation that is going to come from both a canister muffler or round full-bodied type. Most use the same materials (which explains why titanium mufflers usually have a distinct tone) of stainless steel and packing materials but as a result of the Supertrapps construction and radial direction from the discs, the sound is definitely all its own. Some folks would probably not like it because it DOES sound like a hyped superbike but I see it as the perfect marriage between an extremely high revving engine and a dual muffler system. F1 cars have that incredibly high pitch. This does not. It is deep but not quite that high. There is no other Supertrapp exhaust system that I am aware of which sounds like the S2000's because frankly speaking, how many automobiles rev to 9K? Even ordinary sport compacts with the Supertrapps do not sound like mine. The wav files with the link below do not sound like the S2K at all.
Again, not a look for everyone. To answer the most oft asked question, the gases exit radially through the gap in the discs (very small gap but there are 12 of them, all in of course, 360-degrees). http://www.supertrappind.com/Automotive/au...motive_page.htm
