Is anyone able to offer some good advice / experience of replacing carpets caused by mould from damp.
My S2000 got some bad water damage recently and struggling to get rid of the overall dampness inside (especially as it’s winter in the uk and I don’t have a garage).
Id really love whole new carpets installed, but reluctant to spend vast amounts on some hand hand carpet sets.
help me
so today I yanked out my carpets (breaking MANY clips in the process).
There was several pieces of foam soundproofing stuck down under the carpet that were completely soaked, to the point that when I took them out and left them on the ground, a small puddle formed!
There is also a piece of black spongey material in the passenger’s footwell that has absorbed a load of water too.
So the carpets are out and my next step is to measure out the size and enquire at a local carpet shop. I will put down some form of soundproofing before putting the carpets in.
The boot I am going to just cover with soundproofing, I’ve seen people do this and think it looks smart.
First thing is first tho.. new roof to stop water getting inside!
I don't think you will have a lot of luck just trying to piece in the carpet. It must be tatty and perished if you aren't willing to try a proper steam and dry. Isn't there a breaker you can get some carpet from? That's a long shot but you never know unless you ring them up on the blower.
Holy jeez that really sucks! Most owners don't use their cars as a submarine . Are you going to clean up all the rust first before putting in a new carpet? I noticed in your trunk you have the infamous rusting, is that from the water damage or do you have a separate leak back there (this is a known issue).
As for the carpet replacement, a quick google search of S2ki.com reveals 20 years of threads of people replacing carpets. I hope that helps.
So an update on this.. I went over the bits showing rust (especially in the boot) with some primer.
Seats and interior have all been steam cleaned, and most importantly... I HAVE A NEW ROOF
