Default Cooled Seats?

Has anyone modified their S to have cooled seats?

I've seen some kits on ebay that add a couple fans to the seats, but that seems a little cheesy to me. I think I would like to connect it to my AC system if I could and as long as it doesn't adversely effect my AC system too much. I would also like to add seat heaters, the end goal would be to have heated and cooled seats.

I'm also planning on doing this. All of the factory cooled seats that come in luxury cars just use fans for ventilation also, so I'm not worried about incorporating the a/c. My only concern is I don't know the quality of the aftermarket kits and I'm having a hard time figuring out where I can buy a seat ventilation/heated seat kit that isn't junk.

The hardest part is going to incorporate the A/C system. There is no duct work that goes below the seats. I am going to start thinking about a way to do this.

Only way i thought was to run a semi flat duct work from under the dash, down the side (near the radio door), keep it close to the transmission hump, and then up the center of the seat over the frame rail and there you are. By keeping the duct work about half an inch thick it would be east to hide just by adding more carpet insulation under the carpet area to level it out....

There are a few holes in the bottom of the seat pan already cut which is where you would conncect the flexible hoses into it and you will need to trim out some of the foam to allow it to get inside. As for the back rest, yeahhhhhhh I'm still not sure how that would go.

The newer Lincoln Navigators uses those thermo electric modules (like in the 12V micro fridges/coolers) with a blower motor. You'll probably have to raise the seat and modify the lower cushion to make it work since those are pretty bulky.

This sounds like a fantastic idea. I've always wondered a bit about doing it, but never enough to think about trying it. Hmmm.....
I think i'll look into how other systems work and try to figure something out.

Using your stock AC will not work, so don't waste your time. Simple fluid dynamics says that the air will take the path of least resistance x the largest diameter x the closest proximity. In other words, your butt and back will simply prevent the air from ever traveling down whatever path you plan on providing to it. The fans are actually your best bet. They are practical, cheap and somewhat effective...in theory. If you REALLY want to be creative though, you need to use a PEX based fluid thermodynamic transfer system. This is the same type of system used in race suites to keep drivers cool. It might even be the same thing used in the new Lincolns; I don't know.

Good luck.

IIRC they're using Peltier devices.

I have been looking into cooling my seats, it's been pretty hot here lately. Now that I have time, we get a cool front.

I found these, they are thermoelectric. http://www.sportsimportsltd.com/thcosecu.html

Though it looks like the company that makes them are not selling them yet, or anymore.

EDIT:

I found a post I made a year ago about doing this: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/813...wn-your-seats/

Apparently the link I posted now says they will be available October 2011.
