Default Foot well lights

I am adding some foot well lights to my 01 S2K. Can someone give me an idea of what wires to tap into? I have a SPST relay and a rocker switch. I would like the lights to come on when the doors are opened and also be able to turn them on and off with the auxilary switch. I figure I can get power straight from the battery but not sure where and which wire turns the dome lights on when the door is opened.

i would tap into the either the switch wire so they go on as soon as the ignition or if your picky like me i would tap into the wire of the dash lights so when the parking lights/headlights go on they go on.

Thanks guys for the help. Any idea where I might be able to find a wiring schematic so that I can locate these wires.

I tapped the interior lights. Got a LED plate thats powered off of one socket on the interior lights and my footwell lights are wired off of the other one. It works really well too since there is removable plastic trim from the interior light all the way down to the footwell area. No wires sticking out, tie strapped my LED strip to the wire loom to the HVAC air pump on the passenger side and tie strapped the driver side LED strip to the air vent on the drivers side. If you have wide angle LED bulbs it works well. Theres a pic of mine that I posted somwhere

-edit- heres one I uploaded to facebook.

and yes, I should've gone with something other than green...

For my winter project, I'm going to make a computer controlled foot well lights for our car. My plan is:

When the door is open:

-A white (or any color) light will shine and will dim in and out in sync with the overhead lights
-When the headlights are on, a red (or again any color) light will shine at a lower intensity. I might make it so the intensity can be changed.
-When the headlights are on and the door opens, the white led will take over and the red will turn off.

I'll keep everyone posted on the results.
