Default Suede pad cover

I posted a black to tan interior swap last I did month in this thread: Black to tan Hindsight, I probably should have put it here.

Regardless, last month I mentioned that I needed to do something about the extremely worn elbow pad that it had. Since that time I’ve been debating on whether or not to find some saddle colored material (preferably suede) or stick with the original black. I’ve not been having a lot of luck finding anything locally until a co-worker suggested I look in a small motorcycle leather shop in town.

Stopped by there on the way home Friday and as you could imagine there's definitely a lot of leather to choose from there! So as I was explaining to the owner what I was looking for he suggested just buying one of his leather skirts ($20) and cutting out what I needed. Considering what I was finding online was going to cost me at least that much, I figured why not. Most of them seemed to be close to the weight of material I was looking for anyway. While looking through what he had I noticed a black suede one that was badly faded on one edge. Evidently from sitting by a window or in the sun for too long. I offered him 10$ for it and walked out with it. That took care of my color indecision at least.

I used some dense foam padding we have at work that’s about ½” thick for a pad and found the best looking section of the skirt I could for the cover. Following one of the tutorials I found here I cut it all out and finished it yesterday. It’s not perfect but it is significantly more comfortable than what I had before. Not to mention looks 100% better than the worn our ugly thing it was.

Here's what it looked like before:

And Now:

Not sure if I'll end up regretting the suede decision down the road or not but I doubt it. I'm happy with it at this point anyway.

Looks good, and I bet it feels much more comfortable than that hard plastic.
