AP2 retains the setting you choose.
I will affirm, it stays bright when I switch mine....I actually have to dim the dash when it gets dark so the necessity to touch the button remains.

I always thought that setting changes in night mode remains after you shut down the car, I have an ap1 and I thought it was in my owner's manual but I haven't read it lately.

Your preferred brightness with single button presses is retained, but the "maximum" setting (holding the button for 2 sec) has to be redone every time the headlights are turned on.

Its just part of my startup procedure now, I always drive with my headlights on.

My maximum brightness IS retained. Can't speak for others but it does on my 06
