Default AEM ems

im going to be purchasing the aem ems. on the websiteit has a list of computers it is compatibe with but windows vista isnt one of them. maybe they havent updated it or something. does anyone know if it will work with my vista laptop.

my laptop is new and they dont make xp anymore. besides, i like it better.

Well I downloaded the software from the aem website to try on my laptop to ensure it was up to spec... so i am sure you can do the same and see if it works or not...

I believe you can download the software from the AEM website. Try installing it and see what happens.

BTW...the EMS currently uses an old style RS-232 com port...you'll need to get a com-to-usb connector. You can get one on eBay for a couple bucks.

ok, thanks. so is tuning done under the hood on a dyno or do i have my pc in the passenger seat like fast and furious. i dont know sh*t about tuning. is it easy to pick up or should i just leave it all to my shop?

You need to let a tuner set it up for you.

It's not a bad thing to be able to pull driving data since the EMS will not give you OBD codes if something is wrong.

You can learn a fair bit if you read up some books etc. Also AEM are bringing out their own dvd using their own software for a good tutorial to tuning. It is usually best to get a tuner to get a good base map then you can adjust from there if you know what you are doing...


Read through the AEM forum is a good one too.... but one of the best classes is the 101tuning place... they do an intensive class discussion thing and another day is a full s2000 specific tuning class, starting from scratch and making a base map and tuning...

wow, i like the idea of taking a class. i guess ill check out some forums and read a book but ill start with my shop.
